Jersey Advice for Newbie Commuter

I just started commuting to work this week on my road bike. The distance is pretty far at about 25 miles one way so I'm working up to the full distance by taking the train in the morning (cutting the distance to 5 miles) and riding home in the evening.

To carry my gear I have a messenger bag that appears to be perfect - except for one thing. It may be the cause of 2 runs/holes that have appeared on a new Novara Draft jersey. The jersey isn't done for but before I go on to systematically ruin my other jerseys I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a sturdier jersey that is rugged enough to deal with friction caused by a backpack/messenger bag and their straps.
