That sucks so bad!!!

Yesterday was a very expensive commute! I was about 30 minutes into my commute when I reached to put on my sunglasses and found that they had slipped off my helmet somewhere during the ride. These are Specialized ARC Adaptalite's so they're worth going back for so I turn around and ride all the way back to work hoping that they fell safely into the grass somewhere. Well, you know how that story ends...I didn't find them. I think it was fate though because I had just found these glasses again the day before after I had misplaced them in the house. These glasses were meant to be lost! Funny thing is that when I got back to my truck I found that I had also ejected a water bottle from the cheap ass cages that I'm using until my new ones come in.

There is some good news I suppose. When I went to Greg's in Bellevue they had one pair left and they were on sale for $137 (not the $230 that I paid) but the color is red and not Ti so they'll probably slow me down a bit.

That's all...move through now.

I loose almost everything. Hence the reason I only spend $20 on sunglasses. That and I tend to sit on them.
Still... that would be quite annoying.

That's how the universe works. You buy expensive sunglasses, you're bound to lose them. If you buy cheap ones, you'll have them forever. It's just a universal law. Nothing you can do about it.

Great, now we have a 'Sympathy Nazi'

I can understand the sentiment, however, since my road bike only cost me about $350.

It's exactly the opposite for me. I can never keep up with my cheap sunglasses but the expensive ones I keep forever or until I lend them to my wife and she feeds them to a dolphin. But that's another story.

Getting Rx shades was my solution, I've only ever lost one pair of those. And the cost of putting Rx lenses into those super-coolio-athletic shades has been beyond a deterrent for me ever thinking of getting a pair of those.

Try your local home center, Home Depot, Lowes etc... and look for "land scaper's" safety glasses.

This is why I take my friends advice and "dummy cord" everything. Like the saying goes "if it's not tied down you're bound to lose it". Now I'm not sure your style of carrying things. Some people like belt line it (the "gounch line kit" as I like to put it), backpack, tie down to the rack, etc. I prefer a belt system for I like my kit ready for use at easy access when I need it. Now with the sunglasses thing, I don't put them on my helmet but more on my shirt so what I can recommend is try to go to a cellphone store and look for short or long quick release straps like something like this -----=============[]=======| and use the fine loop side on a part of your glasses and the other side of the strap use a tiny zip tie and zip it to the upper part of the helmet strap so it won't bother you while riding. Using this method in conjunction with a sunglasses neck strap makes it nearly impossible to slip off or lose while riding. When you're done riding use the quick release to detach the sunglasses and put into it's case and you're good to go. Or you can keep them linked to the helmet as losing a helmet is kind of hard and you'll have have it handy around.

I use a neckstrap system myself and put the sunglasses around my neck when I enter dark zones so I know I won't lose them.

Hope that helps some.

Just a word of caution on cheap sunglasses. Stick to reputable brands. There have been a wave of fakes coming in and even the stores may/may-not know they are fake as maybe a small percent are mixed in. Fakes come from high end and low end glasses. I'm not saying to go buy from Oakley's website direct and drop $230 on sunglasses (IMHO RIP OFF. They probably cost them $10 bucks to make so... lets divide the rest of the cost with how many letters it takes to spell O.A.K.L.E.Y -.-;; ) so you know you've got the real mckoy. I've spoken with many sunglasses places and also seen quite a few shows educating people on the fake stuff. The fakes are getting harder and harder to tell now a days. Often on the fakes the sticker that says "UV protected" is the most expensive part of the item.

Now from what I've been told by the sunglasses places and some sunglasses nut friends of mine is if you take a bright UV pen and a highlighter you can test if that pair of sunglasses does indeed protect your eyes. What you do is take a piece of white paper and draw a line with the highlighter. Now hold UV flashlight to the back of the sunglasses and shine that light to the paper. If the highlighter mark you made floresesses (sp?) throw the sunglasses away or if the tint is light enough then use them in off peak UV time (Dusk) if you want to keep them. Now if the UV light does not make the highlighter mark floress (sp?) then the sunglasses are protecting your eyes from the UV light outside. Highlighters floress (sp?) when you put UV light to them. They come off with a neon bright glow when you shine the light at it.

No, just more money.

Plus its good to go to sales. I got my rudy project ketyums for a LOT less than the $270 they retail for. I tend to keep those on my face so I don't lose them.

When I get to the city and have to stop at traffic lights, my glasses steam up. So I usually put them on my helmet for the last 1.5km. And mostly when I take off my helmet, I forget they are there and, like cats and toast, they always fall on the lenses.

So I am +1 for tying them around your neck. If I had panniers I would probably opt for putting them in the back of my shirt.

Tifosi Pave glasses with photochromatic lenses. $50.00, they have the optics that rival $200 glasses, and you dont need to make posts if you lose them

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on each child they spawn, but having kids isn't worth a penny to me. My vision on the other hand is worth a lot more than $230 to me. I guess its all about your priorities.

My old water bottle cage once ejected the bottle, and the nylon cage end-piece (cage was metal, otherwise) right into a turn lane as I hit a bump. Of course, I noticed it happen as I had to dodge hitting it with my rear wheel as I passed it, then had to safely stop, get off the bike and grab it before my Brita-Filter bottle got smushed by traffic.

Since then I've upgraded to a cage made with thicker metal and no cheap nylon pieces.

I hate kids too, but $230 glasses dont protect your eyes any better than $50 ones.

Fashion, status, etc, now thats why most spend $230

A solution besides sticking them in your helmet is to push them down on your nose a bit. That keeps mine from steaming up. Then I pop them back into place as I take off.

I just push em down my nose too. Plus mine are designed pretty well and I've adjusted them to vent really well on 90+ degree days.
I can go from like, a 180bpm pouring sweat tempo to 0mph at a light and not have it fog up for about a minute.
