Santa Ana River bike path

Me and my dad are going on our first (long) bike ride together this Sunday. Its about 30 miles round trip. We are going to the Huntington Beach all the way from Anaheim Stadium. Are there still EVIL WILD BEES on the Santa Ana River bike path? Maybe I should post this somewhere else but this is the forum where almost all of my questions are answered.
So tell me what I need to bring on this trip with me, I've never been on a bike this long before.
My dad wants to ride his fixie and I'm not so sure its a good idea because on the way there the wind will be blowing in his face and on the way back the wind is at his back AND its downhill.

Thanks in advance,
maximan1
