New Camera
A month ago I got a digital camera for my 65th birthday. Last friday I took it with me on my commute.
Outside my home at 6:30 - not really dark but I need my blinkies
After a few minutes I am on this road, nice WOL, no cross streets, and very little traffic at this time
A 90 ft downhill, the only hill on my route except the bridge over the river
The St Henri firehall
The Atwater market, where I get onto the Lachine canal
crossing the Lachine canl by the Atwater market
The canal bike path, notice the separate path for peds & dogs on the left. Tere is a lot of traffic during the afternoons in the summer
Canal locks at Rue des Seigneurs, the canal was reopened to pleasure boats about 5 yrs ago, the is 8 ft headroom under the bridges
View of downtown near the end of the canal
That is where I got off the boat 39 years ago when I came from UK
When I get on the Cancorde bridge to St Helens island I look to the right to see if either of the lift bridges seen at left of picture is raised to let a ship through. If one is I make my way along St H island to the Jacques Cartier br.
Jacques Cartier br.

The way looked clear for crossing at the St Lambert locks I then cross onto Ile Notre Dame where I go on
The Formula 1 race trasck for a few hundred yards.
the Victoria bridge - the oldest bridge over the river in Montreal, railway and cars, first opened in 1860.
The St LAmbert locks - I am lucky there is a ship passing through an I got across a few seconds before they raised the bridge.
All the traffic on the South Shore is going the other way, so is no problem for me
I have a couple of km of bike path, crushed stone, but easy rolling provided there hasnt been lots of rain in the past 24 hrs.
St Hubert Airport, mostly business and training aircraft, my work is on the far side.
The road around the airport is fairly narrow, but not much traffic. A lot of cyclists ride around training in the evenings, as they like the lack of cross streets.
bike parking - there is a projecting roof overhead which keeps off most of the bad weather

I took the route over the Jacques Cartier bridge on the way home.
The St Lawrence Seaway from the bridge - the lift bridges where I crossed in the morning are in the distance. The rowing basin from the 1976 Olympics is to the right of the seaway, and the F1 track is just to the right of the rowing basin.
St Helens Island from the same point as the previous picture
Looking along the Jacques Cartier bridge towards Montreal. I will exit onto St H Island before I get to the main part of the bridge.
St Helens Island from the end of the Concorde bridge. The geodesic dome was the US pavilion in the 1967 Worlds Fair.
Habitat 67 - factory built apartments done for the 1967 Worlds Fair, this is just by the port.
