Skid marks on carpet?

So a few of us had to come in to work today (saturday) and I ended up here later than the others in the office who had to come in. I had an hour or so of work left so I decided to blow off some steam by doing laps around the office. I decided to see how fast I could get going on the straights and ended up slowing a little too fast to make the corners a couple of times. Now there are two black streaks on the carpet. I'm the only one who rides to work and I'm pretty new here. I'm hopeing someone here will be able to tell me how to clean this mess up. Any ideas?

I wish I could help you. My work has tiled hallways.

use oxiclean or something? vacuum it and then use stain remover? if it's tire it might come out with friction or vacuuming, and if it's dirt it should come out with vacuum then stain remover.

But if you've actually burnt the carpet fibres then there's nothing you can do aside from replacing it.

haha, i didn't even think of that. one time i dropped the red end of a cigarette onto the carpet of someone else's car (yikes) and it burnt a black hole, so i cut the black part off, and no one ever noticed. at least not enough to say anything about it! i've also done that with candle wax in a house carpet. no one will ever notice. if it's looped carpet, you could try shaving it. heh.

Here's an idea...
  1. Get really skillfull at skidding.
  2. Take your bike back to the office late at night and with no-one around.
  3. Skid the following imprints into the carpet.
  4. If anyone asks, blame it on aliens.

Use a super hot hand held steamer then suck out the left over water and crap up with a shop vac. The steamer will help to bring back the shape of the carpet fibers and will help release the skid mark from the carpet. I have done the same thing myself.

If you are near Little Rock, I can recommend All Seasons Carpet and Cleaning Service, Inc. (501)399-9000. He cleaned up our carpets after the one of the patients of the pediatrician next door managed to flood the urinal and we had standing water in several of the offices.

What a hoot! Please don't be cross for those of us having a laugh. . .THERE but for the Grace of God went I once upon a time. [There WAS that incident with the cigars, playing cards, and the corpse awaiting autopsy, but that's a story for another time my children.] Anyway, my mind played this out just like the scene with Mickey Mouse in Sorcerer's Apprentice. . .musta' seemed like a good idea at the time.

Tiled carpeting can be shifted around.
Mechanic's hand cleaning gel works quite well on carpets. I use it when I tread oil and dirt into the carpet. Wipe up the resultant goo with detergent and water.

Next time keep your boxers on before sitting on the carpet. Sorry, but I have no other suggestions...

+1 for mechanics hand cleaner(I prefer GoJo).

You could also try Simple Green.

My dog left a skid mark on our carpet but that's a whole different problem.

Wow, I didn't read this in time to try it. All the other ideas involved buying stuff I didn't already have and I ended up not having time for that. I grabbed some 409 carpet cleaner and a rag on my way out the door. Unforunatly my supervisor beat me in on sunday night even though I showed up an hour early. I ended up cleaning it up with him there. I figured I'd better to try and get it up before EVERYONE noticed. He would have known it was me anyway. It was a little embarassing, but I managed to get it pretty clean. Too clean in fact, now there are two "clean streaks" instead of skid marks.
