I have been keeping a close eye on the drivetrain, now that I am near 1000 miles. Most chains need to be changed out after 1000 to 1500 miles. Most of the time I change out the chain at 1000 miles. Right now with 932.4 miles then chain is showing just a little ware. But it is well in the limits and does not needed to be changed out yet. I just checked it again befor this mornings ride.

I have set up a ride for Sunday with a friend for a 100 miles ride. So we see what the Denali can do on a long ride after 1000 miles on it already.

Well had to go get some new socks today so road up to the store 6 miles each way. Then got in 22 more miles today. The Denali is running just fine so far.

I got 966.8 miles so far.

WTF was the point of that post? Did you just feel left out or something?

I think ILTB was saying there's no change to the Denali's performance. It's holding up fine and hasn't spontaneously combusted.

I am not an ILTB apologist BTW.

I guess I just had not had enough coffee at the time  I was up to freaking 1:30 am trying to get a stinking DB to work properly. In fact, I'm still working the stupid thing.

CigTech 12-01-06 02:11 PM

 I got it any ways ILTB. Yes it is running just fine and I'm was so wanting to break this bike in some way so I could start the up grades....

You want a working DB? Here is the Real DB! (AKA Deutsche Bahn.)

OK back to Cig's bike.

Well I've been following this thread, and i say great job cigtech! I guess we'll see the 1,000 mile mark this weekend?

I bought the denali a while back, but I did return it because I did not like the brakes on it, and did not want to change them. I didn't really ride it enough to give it a review. When I was in school I rode a walmart bike for about two years with about 45 miles a week. It was a cheap $50 mtn bike, it was heavy and slow, but at the time I did not have the money to spend on a "good" bike.

There's a gaggle of posters turning blue in the face waiting for that moment so that they can say something like "I told you so; see a $159 bike (with a no questions asked return policy) is not a $2000 bike from an LBS."

CrosseyedCrickt 12-01-06 10:54 PM

I may have to get me one of these bikes in the spring. You can get them new on ebay for a little under $130.00 shipped. Though I'd have to do something about the paint. I like my bikes with no decals on them... it just makes them look better to me. :) By then my weight should be down enough to where I can ride one of thse things and at such a cheap price if I trash the bike I'm not out much.
CigTech, thanks for keeping this thread up and running, I'll be down in SpringHill Florida next year, maybe we can hook up for a ride if I can find a bike rental place ;)

I-Like-To-Bike, I know. And I really think there going to pass out before this bike breaks. I ride it hard all the time. I have road it any where from a 2 mile run up to a 114 mile run. And it just keeps on going. It is havey at 30 lbs. and a little on the slow side with the MTB gearing. But so far it is one hell of a bike. I always ride between 20 and 28 mph so you know I'm not babying it at all. And I have had a lot of bikes high and low end that have not been able to take this kind of riding. I have killed a lot of Huffys. Most of the Huffys I have killed in the past is due to the head tube belling out on the top and bottom ends of the head tubes. Due to the hard riding stly I have. The high end bike that I have killed have suffered frame cracks at the welds. I was very inpressed with the 1989 Peogeut PB-14 that I bougt back on March 28 for $10.00. I put 3829.3 miles on it by August 21 this year. But now I am rebuilding it. I just sent the frame out to be repainted.

$2,000 bike owner = spends $100's on maintenance at the LBS each year. They probably spend more on the spring tune up at the LBS than I spend on my bikes.
$150 bike owner = just buys another bike for $150 rather than throw $100's into it.

I've got 1,400 miles on my latest Walmart Schwinn... still haven't had to replace a thing, not even the tires. Just a brake and shifter adjustment and motor oil for the chain once a week.

I've never had a chain failure on a Walmart Schwinn.

You might ask what about my previous Walmart bikes? When I take a bike tour, I usually just go one way and rather than paying to ship the bike back, I just donate it to some charity and take Greyhound back home and just buy another Walmart bike.

Yikes! Add your trenchant post to Cig's blasphemous revelations that he didn't turn into a pillar of salt while riding a Walmart bike; a sure sign the apocalypse is around the corner for the LBS faithful.

man, what is wrong with you guys?

trolls?
i think maybe...
the OP is really something, first post he claims an average of 18 mph but now he goes no less than 20.
this from a guy that has a resume that must encompass 50+ years of employment.. how old are you?

thelazywon 12-02-06 11:01 PM

When you get ready to take it apart, I am really interested to find out how much the frame weighs...

Who gives a poop how fast he is riding or what his employment record may be? The subject is the bike.

Are YOU still riding around wearing shoulderpads and mouthpiece on your carbon bikes feeling superior to everybody else??

yep.

CigTech 12-02-06 11:41 PM

I'm 44, But it don't matter. I-Like-To-Bike said it all. It's about the bike and not the rider. I have been posting my speeds on the bike just to show you what it can do. I just tell it like it is.

I have been thinking about putting a carbon fork on it to take the weight down. I know the frame is about 8 to 10 lbs with the steel forks.

evancds 12-03-06 07:27 AM

On my walmart ride, the cranks+chain rings were about 3 pounds. I'm not sure what kind are on the denali, but a new crankset would probably be lighter and definetly help your gearing
