Way too many decals, the rims are silver color not black along with the headset. Which two me takes away the looks from the Denali. So I looked over the Varsity did not like the shifters. So looked up on top rack and seen the Denali pro.
But the Denali pro has a slightly different frame. The main difference is that it does not have a mono seat stay. And different forks with a quick-release front wheel. And comes with a trophy rear deraileur which is better than what's on the denial. it also has a 50/39 crankset along with a 13/28 cassette. As mentioned before it also comes with Shimano Sora 7 speed break shifters. So Friday I will be starting a new review of the Denali pro. Since this thread has been so popular. |

Wow did this turn into the happy thread :D
My apologies bdinger, and those FX's are great looking bikes! Hopefully I will find a used on one day. I am just to poor to spend $600 or what ever on a bike as of right now (VERY broke college student) Cigtech Im only 150 miles or so of you, so when I find a breifcase full of money on my way to work/school. Ill take a little vacation and make a trip down their to ride. |
I have seen the Pro and have looked over the pictures of the Yukon XL. There do look the same to me. And get this Wal-Mart has the Pro in store fore $324. Online they have the Yukon XL for $298. With Tax and shipped to a store near me it comes to $318.86 XL. The PRO with tax from the store is $346.68. So save a little by ordering the Yukon XL.

NyBikeGotStolen, Love to ride with you. Maybe one day I'll come up there.

Hey cig,
I want to thank you for all the time and effort you put into this review. And thanks to you, I also have a denali as well :D. Only put in around 10 miles on it so far due to the temps being over 100 degrees here in LA these past few weeks :( Don't really understand all the bashing this bike gets, cause it's not that bad at all if you give it a good once over when you receive it. But I am curious on how can you guys get those speeds of +20 mph: at some point, the mtb gears just kinda fail to keep up, even though I can go faster. But the bike's fast. Even on the city streets, I was able to keep up and probably pass the metro bus, but had to keep slowing down and wait for the bus to move due to too much traffic and ppl. And i'm out of shape =) |

On to something else to back up cig, I now have 1045miles on the Denali. All I have had to replace part wise were 3 tubes in that distance and change the quite crappy bar tape factory provided. Adjustments made: After initial go-over from first day of owning I had to adjust the rear derailleur and front, tighten a few bolts here and there and tighten the front wheel. I did add 2 water bottle racks. Now to all you snobs reading this, I did not add carbon fiber water bottle cages being that on this bike I do not think that a carbon fiber water bottle cage is going to make much a difference on my bike and I highly doubt your much faster if any since you added 2 CF cages to your bike. I did do a few mods to the bike such as a computer and aerobars I recieved as a gift from a friend. I did add Shimano Clipless Pedals to the bike. Now let me clear something up and shed some insight on something. I go out on the bike and actually enjoy the ride. Yea, maybe I do get passed by people on their high end Bianchis, Specialized and Treks and whatever cray $$$$ bikes these people ride, but I am still enjoying myself and isnt that what riding is all about? Staying in shape and having fun? Never once since I have been riding this bike have I ran into one person who insulted my bike or me for buying it. This brings me to another point. All you snobs who sit on BF and post insulting comments about the Denali, Yukon, Denali Pro etc... If you happen upon someone riding one day having a great time enjoying themselves on Denali or Wal-Mart bike, are you going to take the 5 minutes it takes you to concoct an insulting post to stand there and totally insult someone who is out riding it in person? All for the mere satisfaction of f'ing up someones prob. all around great day? Just because your bike cost 4500 dollars and you get a lifetime supply of LBS free tune-ups while they do the repairs themselves and your having fun, does not mean that the person on the Denali is having the ride from hell because of where they purchased the bike. I do ride my LBS organized rides with people on high end bikes, and the Denali has been noticed and people do like it. Some have even went as far as to ride some of the rides on it while I rode theirs. A few times people have completed 20mile rides on it and complimented it saying it was ALOT better than they would have expected. I have never pulled up for a group ride and been laughed at, insulted, or told to leave because I bought a bike at Wal-Mart. I have been confronted on the road by other riders on very high end bikes asking where I got the bike and upon telling them I never once got negative feed back. If they were laughing in their head, oh well. I could care less. It comes down to this. I love my Denali, even though it is a DS bike not a LBS bike. And if anyone is going to say I am someone from either Kent or Wal-Mart writing this post, I will gladly take a pic of the bike and post it on here. PS.. A note to all snobs and a-holes writing negatives on this thread, If you find it necessary to police this thread deterring people from buying this bike, you should get a p/t job at wal-mart or a department store and get paid to deter people from buying bikes there. If you dont like the bike, dont waste time posting it when you could be in other topics adding your input on something that you have ridden or have knowledge in. Thank you. I am done here. Cigtec, keep this going as I will continue your review but mine will be on the Denali Pro. |

many things are impossible KC2RJA. and yes, i think we can safely assume that many things that have been said on this thread are false (or that at the very least some facts were fudged).
as for your rant up there .... amid all the "snobs this" and "snobs that", you said some things that caught my eye: "I am still enjoying myself and isnt that what riding is all about? Staying in shape and having fun?" i would have to say no. my bike is not a toy. i would say, for me, riding is a way to get from place to place. another: "Just because your bike cost 4500 dollars and you get a lifetime supply of LBS free tune-ups while they do the repairs themselves and your having fun" uhm ... i do my own repairs. often with help from the people here, books, or friends, but i do in fact do my own. I would imagine that most of the people in this section of Bikeforums do their own as well, regardless of the cost of their bike. and where did you hear about the "lifetime supply of LBS tune-ups"? i've never heard of such a thing. are you confusing it with a lifetime warranty? and finally: "PS.. A note to all snobs and a-holes writing negatives on this thread, If you find it necessary to police this thread deterring people from buying this bike..." maybe some people here are trying to discourage people from buying the bike ... i would if someone were to ask me. But i think you missed the point of many of the posts (or perhaps not have read them) ... Cigtech is making some pretty bold claims about a bike from a department store, and thereby claiming that it is as good as a quality bike from a reputable dealer. That is simply not true, and while you may scoff at those "a-holes" and "snobs" on their "cray $$$$ bikes", those bikes are really good bikes, and of a much higher quality than your own. That's not to say anything is necessarily bad with what you bought/ride, just that it is not the quality most people expect, or would find sufficient to pin their lives on. after all, if wal-mart sold cars for cheap would you venture to say that it would be as safe/ reliable, or possessing the same quality as a car from a reputable car company (like toyota)? |
Finally, my 2 cents
I've been reading this thread for some times, here is my 2 cents.
I believe in spirit CigTech is credible. Picking bones over the details is a little counterproductive for the intent of this thread. I was a owner of a Huffy bike since I was 13. Well, actually I'm STILL an owner of that bike as it sat idle in my garage now due to my recent purchase of the Cannondale. I commuted with that Huffy for a Semester back in College and it had served me well. I gave it an overhaul about a year ago (replaced a rusted cable, broke brake...) and the bike is still serviceable with all original parts. Bike is not THAT complicated of a machinary to maintain or build. It can take sustaintial irregularities and still function. Statistically, a LBS bike will keep more people happy for a longer period of time. On the other hand, a X-Mart bike would occassionally keep their buyers happy (assuming the buyer is knowledgeable). Simply saying, it is repeatability that make things expensive. For example, anyone can shoot a 3 pointers occassionally, but an NBA player can hit one all day long. Therefore, we can say CigTech hit a jackpot with his Denali. Furthermore, there are countries that has a much higher bike utilization rate that US (China, North Korea...) that are riding FAR less quality bikes and still getting their job done. One of the occupation I watched in Hong Kong back in my childhood was Propane tank delivery man. They are putting 4 Propane tanks (2 in front rack, 2 in the rear rack) riding rusting old steel Made in China bike. Those Propane tanks are slightly larger than the American gas grill type tank. Their biking outfit was a wifebeater, some shorts, a towel on their necks for hauling tanks upstairs, and a pair of plastic flip flops. They are negotiating crowded city streets with pinpoint precision. I didn't recall a bike failure. That bike was their tool of the trade, and it can handle that kind of work. If supper depends on that bike, it probably works, and works well. The point of the story was, manufacture a bike that runs is not difficult because of the maturity of the technology and the (relative) simplicity. I can make a guess there are more X-mart bikes out there than LBS. If X-mart bikes are really that bad, people would be dying left and right at such an alarming rate that Gov't would've banned sales of bikes by the big box stores. By comparison, mishandling of handguns probably cause far less death and injuries (note the word mishandling) than poorly built/assembled bikes, and guess which product Wal-Mart still selling. |

However, for someone searching the entire site looking for a review on the Denali this is what you get. THis is the largest on-going review/informative thread on the Denali to be found on BF and perhaps the entire internet. Yes, for some commuting is a way of life. But dont forget the people that use a bike to stay in shape, have fun and ride with friends. another: "Just because your bike cost 4500 dollars and you get a lifetime supply of LBS free tune-ups while they do the repairs themselves and your having fun" uhm ... i do my own repairs. often with help from the people here, books, or friends, but i do in fact do my own. Yes, the lifetime warranty still applies but they will service the bike for no charge while there are some shops that even if you purchase the bicycle there they will still hit you with 60 dollar tune-ups. Tune-ups are one thing that X-Mart will not offer. They offer 0 support aside from replacing the bike within the 60 day return policy. and finally: "PS.. A note to all snobs and a-holes writing negatives on this thread, If you find it necessary to police this thread deterring people from buying this bike..." maybe some people here are trying to discourage people from buying the bike ... i would if someone were to ask me. I have alot of respect for people on expensive bikes and I also have alot of respect for people on less expensive box store bikes also. Perhaps I phrased this wrong. Whether you use the bike for commuting, excercise, leisure, time with the family, dont we all ride anyway? I can see your point of trying to discourage people from buying the Denali but this is YOUR opinion on the bike. Maybe some things quoted by Cigtec are a little off the wall, but if you take out the far fetched statements that were made such as boucing off cars, increasing store revenue by leaving a bike out front in front of a store, and holding leading pro paces(which may or may not be false, we will never know until someone on here rides with CigTec to verify that, this proves to be an excellent review of the Denali. I apologize for stirring up any mixed emotions with my response, but I would like it to be known that some people are searching the Denali not only for commuting but also for leisure. Please dont forget the people that ride just for the pure enjoyment and exercise riding a bicycle can bring while keeping in mind the people that use a bicycle as a daily source of transportation. |

State, give it up. I think that many of the claims made in this thread are extremely suspect (particularly the speed claims- I agree that the odds of a smoker on a Dinali matching or exceeding the pace of pro tour riders on dedicated TT bikes is slim), but there really isn't much point arguing about it endlessly on an internet forum. People that are considering the Dinali will likely buy it anyway (it is cheap, if nothing else). Just make sure that the bike is built and adjusted reasonably well if you go the Dinali route, folks. Be safe.
If you think this thing is a racebike you're a fu(king fool! It's a good, cheap way to get into cycling. I could care less if this cat is full of *****. The only peeps I care to sweat are the animals I race with. |
And these are the days of our lives....

No, this is not a race bike. That's way it's in the commuting forums. Man where do these guys from.

Sorry I must have read it wrong. I think to many people are starting to jade me.

No sweat man. Sorry I was quick to react. :D

Cig,
Did you buy the Yukon yet? Have you made any decisions at all? Looking forward to future reviews. Are you still riding the broken Denali? |
No Yukon yet. Bills got in the way. So it will have to wait untill the 14th or so. Plus the doctor still does not want me riding yet. I really messed up my shoulder.
|
Cigtech, whats your 100m dash time like? The world record is 9.77 so I'm thinking you'd be around 9.75 or so.
