Front Range Blizzard, Part Deux
Seen the forecasts??? Get the snow bikes out again. :)
Have fun and be safe out there! |
I spent 2 nights sleeping at DIA. Not fun sleeping on floors!
|
I know I've already said this in a million other posts but I'm just not interested in biking in this mess. I'll bike in 6 inches no problem. But right now there is no room on the road... random ice patches from the melting, and another foot on the way.
Who is with me in taking even more snow days?! |

I've got this week off, but I'll probably be out and about at least a little. My bike is my main transportation, with the bus as backup. And riding the bus was even WORSE than the bike in this crap... they didn't clear any of the stops, and most places you had to walk in the street to get anywhere as the sidewalks were a foot and a half or more deep in packed snow off the streets.
We were stepping off the mounds of snow into the bus. |

Who is with me in taking even more snow days?! I only work 2 days this week. Why I would bother when I can't even get a bike out of my housing development is beyond me. I suppose I could but I have this fondness for staying upright. :p |
I hope that stuff makes it to KC. I want to try a new contraption I'm working on.

aww, come on guys, I rode in today. It's not too bad. Of course, I'm on a bike path or low traffic roads and I ride in later to avoid rush hour. ;)
Speaking of contraptions, I'd like to put together a pedal powered snowplow (or snowblower?) to clear the bike paths. The city just doesn't do a very thorough job. It's pretty bad when riding on the bike path is MORE dangerous than the city streets. |

It's pretty bad when riding on the bike path is MORE dangerous than the city streets. Interesting that the bike paths are plowed down there but many of the residential streets aren't. Here they've hit almost all the neighborhoods but the bike path hasn't been touched except with cross country skis. |
If I could only make it to colorado blvd without falling or soaking my shoe through my cleat....
I am missing a section for my all road route from Thornton to the DTC. That and I need to connect another part of my route with streets to avoid the cherry creek trail. Next week! Last year I was all excited to ride in snow and ice. Now it has more of a "been there done that" appeal to it. Rain, wind, while it is snowing, thunder, and a few other items are just fine. Ice and excessive amounts of snow bug me. |
I was very surprised they cleared the bike path at all this time (thus the thoughts of clearing it myself). After the previous snowfall to this one, the Cherry Creek path was a skating rink for a week or more. (if a skating rink had bike tire ruts frozen in it, NOT fun)

I'm on vacation this week. We have guests from out of town. I rode yesterday, but cut it short, because there was so much traffic, and many of the roads are only partly plowed. This morning I got out for a 2-hour ride starting at 6am. It was nice, because, with a few exceptions, I could just take the lane. I feel better now!

Personally, I think someone has been blowing smoke up the mayor's skirts about how hard they have been working on snow removal. They certainly haven't been doing much for the nonmotorized public. |

I took a peek at the platte trail from the HOV lane and it still looks fairly icy. |

You would hope they would leave us alone. :) |
Well 8-18inches by tomorrow morning with 10-20inches possible Friday night through Sunday morning. '
I'm usually one of the biggest snow lovers but this is just getting silly! |
Cost should be about $40. |
Perfect timing for my next 4 day weekend. Good god. I am never using up excess PTO in December again. Nothing like sitting at home for a few days. bleh
