Hurray for Topeak!

Well, I went to use my Topeak RoadMorph the other day to pump up a flat tire... the first time I've needed it in over a month, and *GASP* The piece that you remove to switch the pump from Schrader to Presta had come loose and fallen off!

What timing.. I was already running late for work, and had to quickly get my other bike ready to go, and ended up riding my road bike in the snow for a week.

Well, I used the website to inquire where to get replacement parts for the pump, and they're shipping out the parts for free!

Hurray for Topeak!

I LOVE this pump!

Had a similar situation occur in mid Dec with my Road Morph pump.......
Broke the strap holding the bracket onto my frame....figured I put 2,000 miles on the bike with that part, so Topeak didn't owe me anything....it was just normal wear, or I did something dumb.......so emailed them to ask where I could buy a replacement part, fully expecting to pay for a replacement part...
like your experience, they mailed me a replacement bracket at no charge.....probably cost them a few bucks and postage......I will never buy a pump from any other company.....they make a first class pump, they follow it up with first class service...a first class company....am very impressed!!!!

Yeah... the Mountain Morph is on my list to get for my bad weather bike, so I don't have to switch them anymore!

Um? The same thing happened to me in November. 3 days later and no cost they had replaced it. I think my 3 year old may have helped it disappear. Oh well, I now check it before I ride.

What was wrong with your primary (floor) pump?

Road morph. My issue was with the retaining cap. It disappeared. Consequently, the pressure would blow out the valve parts in the pump rather than inflate the tire. The timing was quite annoying being that I had just come off a string of flats (10 or so) that resulted in me changing tires. While I had new tires I was not entirely thrilled about riding home without a working pump in the snow.

That's the same part that went AWOL on me... I'd noticed it loose on a number of occasions, and tightened it back up, but at some point I didn't check and it was gone. I'll apply some thread lock on the new one.

Most excellent idea. Where do you find thread lock? Auto parts store or somewhere like home depot?

Most any ol' hardware store will have it. I recommend the blue stuff, because you will be able to get the pieces to separate with some effort if you absolutely have to. Some of the other thread lockers are meant to lock the pieces forever.

Is a mountain morph better for filling big balloony tires? I have to pull out the ideal gas law to find out if a 1.5" tire at 100 psi has more or less air in it than a 2" tire at I don't know 80 psi, and I don't want to do that. My blistered hands already told me that the 26x1.5" tire at 100 psi has a lot more air in it than a 700cx28 tire at 110 psi.

Topeak does this routinely. I have a set of Topeak Defenders and when i bought a new bike i emailed them to tell them i needed a new mounting bracket for the front. I was just inquiring how to buy it. They replied and said one was on the way free of charge.

Turns out my name and mailing address was in my email signature. So i got a free mount just because i wanted one.

You unscrew the end cap and pull out the round valve piece. Then flip it around to the wider hole in the back. Kind of a pain really. I just use another pump for our schrader bikes.

Doesn't it seem that the fact that so many things are falling off or going wrong with these pumps might give one pause? It's great that they have such a good attitude about making things right, but when I was reading this thread I kept thinking that it sure seemed like people are having a lot of problems with them. I have Zefal HPX pumps on three bikes, and nothing has ever gone wrong, ever. They work great too.

Okay, all you Topeak lovers, let me have it!

The part is designed to be able to be taken off... it worked it's way loose. I forgot to check it once in a while to make sure it was tight, even though I KNEW it could back off. If you tighten it down all the way tight, it makes it difficult to get the pump head on and off the valve stem. I should have put the thread lock on it the first time I noticed it loose... I won't make the same mistake.

My Topeak is the ONLY pump I own... I love it. Small, pretty lightweight, and easily able to reach the pressures I normally run at.

I wouldn't let you have it at all. I just don't have the arm strength to use your Zefal pump. The Road Morph works like a traditional floor pump, so I can use my lower body to hold it down. It was my only pump for 6 months before my housemate and I could get ourselves a standing floor model, and it wasn't too bad.

Through abuse, neglect, and no fault of the pump I broke the foot peg on my road morph. Topeak replaced for no charge. Great pump, great service.
