Someone from Winnipeg chime in please.

You've had -35C(-31F) -46C(-51F) windchill the last few days, just curious if anyone is braving those conditions.

I'd do it but the bike won't make it. YEAH RIGHT.

I do go all winter long if I can. I've been off the bike for the last 2 1/2 weeks because of the extreme cold. As CC said, -35 mornings regularly for the last 3 weeks.

It's supposed to be alright by weeks end so I hope to be out there. I hate waking the family up for a ride at 5:30am and worse, begging for rides home from coworkers at the end of the day.

Any chance of a chinook coming this far east??

Stay upright,

-32 here in Regina this morning. We've been in the deep-freeze for about 3 weeks now, it blows. I was putting on lots of miles outdoors before this cold snap. Now only trainer and back and forth to work, I think I've gained 2 or 3 pounds. I did do my short 3km commute this morning, and took the dog for a quick spin down to a local park. All in all it's not so bad, you just have to limit your time on the bike to sub 30 min.

I have a friend in Winnipeg who rides year round in all conditions. Super hardcore. I'll bet he was out.

It's finally over!!! After 3 weeks of -35C to -40C mornings and highs of -25C it's over.

After today, temps get up to above seasonal.

I've seen people out in the last few weeks and wonder how their bikes handle it.
Whenever I've ridden in cold like this, the sounds coming off the bike are frightening. It sounds as if pieces are either going to snap or fall right off.

Stay upright

Dude thats harsh.

Umm. If I rode as fast as I could, down a hill, directly into the wind this morning, I could have theoretically generated a wid-chill of -32C using the old 1980s wind-chill calculation that assumed a human being was a warm bucket of water.

Or something like that.

I am jealous, I wish it would get like that here, we are about 10 degrees warmer. We had a nice storm but it is going to warm up, and I am feeling sad about that. The only part about winter I don't like, is that it almost never gets cold enough, and that I have to pay for heat.

It must have worked, as it was -11C this morning, and then -3C when I left work. What a beautiful ride home!

It's amazing how short of burn time the light gets at the colder temperatures. When it was about -10C, I would get about 5 (4km) trips out of it before the LED went Red. When the temp is around -20C, I get about 3 trips out of it. At -32C the other day, on a fresh charge, the LED was red when I arrived at work. Granted though, when the LED turns red I typically get about 20 to 30 minutes out of it at -10C.

Sounds about right.... There was a about a 7 to 10 km/h wind, but no big deal

I have Canoed La Ronge extensively and love it up there. My Father in-law use to supervise the Highways camp at the Geikie River near Points North. He also had a cabin up there that was accessible only by boat or snowmobile. It was so quiet up there your thoughts can become too loud!

canada is a beautiful country. i've taken 9 fishing trips there. we usually take extra time off so we can stay in some of the larger towns. i've been to winnipeg quite a few times. i really liked calgary and edmonton as well.

one time, we decided to drive from winnipeg to lynn lake. the more remotely you go into the country, the more beautiful it is....and everywhere we've gone, the people have been great ('cept at the border)!

Moraine Lake if I'm not mistaken.

Most beutiful place I've ever been.

Cycling in the Rockies the first time is something I'll never forget. I felt like a kid again.
Had my speedometer clock me over 70KPH. I was scared s**tless. I never did clear that max speed off of my cycle computer but when the battery went so did the speed.

We've had 2 weeks of firgid temps in Southern Ontario, only it's a damp cold, not that nice dry cold that you guys get!!! I've been off the bike for 2 weeks, I'm a wuss, my limit is -15 C. They're calling for +3 by Tuesday, might melt some of the 2' of snow we got last week.

Ah geez. Those mosquito stories are just rumours.

It's not as bad as everyone hears.

Come down (everyone) and enjoy.

Give me a call and I'd be glad to show you around.

9th anual Ice Bike race tomorrow. My son and I will both be there.
