It Feels so Good
My life has been in flux lately, and getting out and commuting has been tough, but I'm back on the bike. The cold weather is over and I have a second job that has a back room to change in and hang the sweaty togs up to dry. My commute isn't what it was a few years ago, but I'm not in that sort of shape either, the wind in my face, the snow still on the trail, studded tires, all conspired today with some negative vibes, that I was too old to commute. All I could think of was getting ready for the Ironman ride the end of April.
It feels good to be on the bike again.

Glad you're back on the bike.

I think that would be when he retires! I think a 'your mileage may vary' would be most appropriate in that instance .

The thing about being too old, is don't get off the bike in the first place. My sabbatical has cost me dearly, I'm not the same 20 yo I used to be, and my body isn't as resilient as it once was, it is taking me longer to recoup for the next round. Took the day off yesterday and debating today. Problem with today is if I don't ride today or tomorrow, my emotional health goes in the toilet, I get angry and rather nasty to be around, so...

You are roughly the same age as me. (48) Once you get back into shape, you will find you are very resilient - amazingly so. It will take time, but you can get there. A year ago, I weighed more than 220 lbs, now I am under 190 (I am nearly 6' 2"). Biking up a slope of any type was a workout - now, I have to go up 3,000 feet of rock and gravel to get a good workout.
You won't get back in one day - but you stay at it and you will be dropping youngsters before you know it.
If you have to debate - don't take the day off - just go slower. Also, you got the right idea of having a goal - it keeps you focused.
