"special" shoes for commuting?

after a year of not thinking I need them, I am now considering getting some cycling shoes. my feet are getting really hot in the nike sneakers. I want something lightweight and cool, that doesn't cost 85 bucks. and the pedals I have are metal types with teeth, no clips or cleats or whatever.... any reccomendations?

Nashbar is having a big sale--up to 70% off--right now on shoes and clothing. They even have some shoes for what they call "old skool" pedals.

I'd get the Nashbar Ragster Sandal. $50

It is well ventillated and has a stiff sole.

It has the added advantage of having cleat mounting option if you ever decide to try.

I really like Keen shoes/sandals on platform pedals.
