What's your bike called?

Another thread (Susan has neighbours) got me thinking about this. Maybe more of my bikes need names? My tandem has three. It's either

Daisy
Tandemonium
The Limo

What about y'all?

pinkrobe 05-04-07 07:59 AM

The blue one
The green one
The Cervelo
The Trek

I love Tandemonium, it's a classic in the making.

And surprisingly enough, seeing how as I started the other thread, my bikes name is Susan.

My brother rides "your mom".

I mount "Fujisan" (early 80's fuji s12-ltd) and I haven't named my downtube folder.

BikinginSeattle 05-04-07 08:38 AM

I have two bikes, "trusty bike" and "fast bike".

bdinger 05-04-07 08:39 AM

Trek - "Zing"
Specialized MTB - "Big Black Badass M!@#!@#!@#"

And I may be adding a Monocog 29er this weekend.. dunno what I'll name that

Sammyboy 05-04-07 08:42 AM

My Raleigh tourer, with racks, panniers, trailer hitch, could be The Truck. Not very inspired though.

I think I need to get a brown bike, so I can call it Downtown Julie Brown. Perhaps if I paint my lockup beater brown?

I also need to name a bike something random Japanese cartoon sounding. Like Super OK Urusei Turbohammer.

Sammyboy 05-04-07 08:46 AM

Oh! The bike below (as yet unfinished) is known as The Gentlemans Express

Zeuser 05-04-07 08:48 AM

"My EBike". That's what I call it when I talk about it.

m00n 05-04-07 09:08 AM

"Road bike" and "the other bike".

Scorer75 05-04-07 09:10 AM

Mountain bike and road bike

aadhils 05-04-07 09:20 AM

I just call it bike, since I only currently have one...

walterk46 05-04-07 09:21 AM

It used to be "orange bike," "green bike" and "the fixie," but I just took most of the components off of green bike (an old EF Schwinn) and put them on a black frame (old 4130 Schwinn). Now my commuter has a black frame, wheels, hubs, bar tape, saddle, fenders, chainring, etc. "Darth Vader's bike" keeps coming to mind. I guess I need a black cape and when I pass people, instead of saying "on your left" I'll say "I have you now."

Sammyboy 05-04-07 09:31 AM

I can't do most of the standard ones. It can't be "the Fix", cos I have two. It can't be "The Bates", cos I'v got an EG Bates AND an HR Bates. It just doesn't work like that. Luckily, very few people are ever interested enough to talk about my bikes with me.

MyPC8MyBrain 05-04-07 09:34 AM

My Cannondale t700 with rack, fenders, panniers, and the works is:
"The Family Truckster"

The new Fetish is yet unamed. It's all black with cabon gizmos, kind of a counter culture look. I'll think of something... but not yet. It's still a work in progress.

Mtb and tandem are "Mountain Bike" and "Tandem"

dblock 05-04-07 09:38 AM

my yellow fixed is "banana man"
and i have yet to name my road bike which i just got so for now it's just the "road bike"

jeff-o 05-04-07 10:00 AM

The Trike.

bkpker 05-04-07 10:01 AM

Stacy.

Adagio Corse 05-04-07 10:07 AM

my "Baby" and the "Rock"

JOHN J 05-04-07 10:10 AM

The Full dresser Surly Cross check commute bike fenders ,lights , racks ... THE BEAST

My falcon Road frame (now a SS) the "Blue Bird" (its blue)

I could call It exaclty what it is "The Blue Falcon" after the cartoon character. My avatar is the Blue Falcons side kick "Dynomut" <the DOG WONDER>

no name for the Giant MTB.

"John"

SDRider 05-04-07 10:13 AM

The LeMond and I call the other one the LOOK...

I don't generally try to come up with names for inanimate objects, no matter how fond of them I may be.

Traicovn 05-04-07 10:16 AM

Not a 'weight weenie', but I often refer to my recumbent as either the 'red sled' or if I'm going slowly uphill or fast down hill the 'lead sled'.

sweetnsourbkr 05-04-07 10:37 AM

Mellow Yellow for my roadie, and The B|tch for my mtb.

Buglady 05-04-07 10:37 AM

I refer to mine as my trusty steed, but I don't know if that really counts as a name...

If I had more than one bike I might be more likely to name them.

I posted this back in 2005:

This weekend, my wife said, "You should give your bikes names. It's only right, considering how much time and attention they get." My kids, (ages 8, 9 and 12) were all for it and began tossing out all kinds of crazy names.

It soon became apparent that if I didn't come up with names, they would. And those names may or may not have been the most flattering or appropriate titles.

I have always liked the story of Don Quijote, so I named the commuter Rocinante, (Seņor Quijote's old horse) and the shopper Dapple (Sancho Panza's mule). Rocinante means something like supernag and the horse in the story is a male. However the family and I are calling her Rosie for short. The names are still not the most flattering, but seem rather appropriate considering the "crazy old man" component in the story of the Man of La Mancha.

Since that post, I have added two MTBs to my stable and built a beach/road frankenbike from the ground up.
Also Rosie has had a make over:
Before
After

In keeping with the Don Quijote theme, I named my first MTB Peg (after the wooden peg horse). When I got my Specialized Hard-Rock, it only seemed appropriate, or INappropriate to name it Special Ed (get it, Special iz ed).

As for the frankenbike, I spent $4.00 on a cable guide and about $6.00 on brake pads. Everything else was either canibalized off of other bikes hanging in my shop or recycled from dumpsters and trashpiles. I named it Freeride. Pics
