All dressed up and somewhere to go

Well, tomorrow I have to be somewhere in a suit and tie. I had thought before of getting a rack-mount garment bag, but I never got around to it (mostly because of the cost). So here I am thinking I have to drive tomorrow, because there's no other way I can bring the suit along.

But, the weather is going to be very nice, cool temperatures, no rain, so why not wear the suit while biking? I'll want to avoid breaking a sweat, so I'm taking the hybrid commuter with the granny ring. I have a feeling I'm going to get some very strange looks on the way. But really, why can't we ride in our formal wear?

If you're in Madison WI and you're anywhere near the southwest commuter trail, say hi if you happen to see me. Umm, I'll be the guy in the suit amongst the roadies, the hipster fixie kids, and the weekend Burly tag-a-long families.

Bikes: roadbikes and full-suspension mountainbikes

How important is the meeting you'll be attending?

I commute to my evening job at VT (formal catering department) either in a shirt and tie or a tux shirt and bow tie, jacket stays in the office. Among the many professionals who pedal around campus, I fit in rather well as most of us dress this way roughly year round. During summer session I roll my dress shirt and tie up in my Timbuk and pedal in a t-shirt. My commute is 6 miles round trip, however, so I really don't get overheated, even on the humid days. A good pace is crucial and I give myself a bit more time to ride.

Bikes: Still have a few left!

Wear the suit on your commute, just be careful to not crash! Back in the day, a friend crashed on his way to a job interview & arrived with bloody knees & elbows showing through the torn suit. He got the job but had to buy a new suit
