Mount on light broke today
I have a cheapie Cat Eye EL-200, 3-led light, which broke today. The mounting feet on the bottom of the light broke so now the light won't stay seated on the handlebar mount. Temp solution, duct tape. The light was only bright enough to be seen, not bright enough to see. Good thing it's summer with the long days so I'll be okay without the light.
I usually go with the philosophy, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But now it's broke, so now it's time to fix it. It finally gives me a excuse to go shopping for a new light. Ooooo, HID. Ooooo, expensive.

Hmmm, lighting huh?
I picked up the Planet Bike Alias and it's been great for the last few months. Nashbar had a sale on it so i grabbed it for cheap though... There's a nice sale on the Light & Motion Solo Logic right now though:

I am seeking rationalization to replace my 15W halo, but mooning over LED rather than HID. Cygo dual cross, cateye double/triple shot seem to be pretty close to replacing illumination of 15W halo for similar price. Have been haunting the new electronics forum for inspiration.

I've been researching and have narrowed it down to a couple a lights. I'm most likely gonna pass on the HID's.
Possible choices so far based on a compromise on price+run time+brightness:
-L&M Solo Logic LiIon Cub
-Cygolite DualCross 300 LED NiMH
-Jet Starfire NiMH
Yup, I should of got a good light in the first place, but I was being cheap. Got what I paid for. Ugh.

I have so many other flashlights, yet I cheaped out on my bike light. Now it's time to get a REAL bike light.
-dive lights
-Surefire flashlights
-Hella driving lights
-headlamps
-various other flashlights

If you’re after cheep, durable, long battery life and bright enough for 10-15mph speeds this is what I recommend:
