Short commute, the long way

I'm only 5 miles from work and just started biking last week. I enjoy the ride so much that I started taking the long way back home. Anyone else finding themselves doing this? Extending your short commute to a longer one?

As a matter of fact, I posted a thread about doing just this, last week.

And welcome to the club!

Once upon a time, I lived 4.5 miles from my office, and I managed to turn it into a 9 mile trip. Of course, it went through portions of four cities instead of across one, but it was fun.

Every chance I get. When I started my ride was 17 miles. Now it's regularly 25 and on a couple of Fridays I've gotten into the 40s.
