But I was pulling a damn Burley trailer fercrissake! Not likely to be mistaken for a tri-athlete!
Pulling a trailer? Would it be possible that you had a child on board or was it just a cargo trailer? If a child was a possibility then he deserved the finger and horn.
I have to wonder though, maybe it was a case of distraction, if he had been enough of an a****le to do it deliberately, I would have expected him/her to pull you over for the bird.

On the subject of cameras, I want to get one myself. I often see things it would be nice to post here, and I think if you give the police a legally obtained video of someone committing a ticketable offense, I don't see why they wouldn't write them up.
Its easy for them, and when people know they were on camera they are not likely to fight a small to medium ticket.

Sounds like the cop did okay on that score; not so sure about you, though.
If someone can't take a little prodding, that's their own issue. The practice generally makes life more interesting. I like seeing bike cops downtown and let them know this. Doesn't mean we can't have some fun.

Don't cop computers have text to voice a la Steven Hawkings? Or some better voice system so people can concentrate more on driving then looking at the computer for APB alerts texted out?

I see them on a weekly basis...from the old farts wobbling all over the road so you can't know where they'll be in the lane from one moment to the next, to the arrogant jerks in matching jerseys riding four abreast from the shoulder to the center-line on winding country roads, to the punks recklessly zipping through lights and signals in urban areas. I try to be a considerate cyclist and I have had very few negative encounters with drivers. Likewise, I try to be a considerate driver and give cyclists a wide berth, pass safely, etc. Mutual respect tends to go a long way.

I wish I could do a fake fall, a la the Italian soccer team, and use it in times like this: car buzzes you on an otherwise empty road, so I wobble and take a (serious-looking but otherwise harmless) fall. Driver sees you down in his mirror and speeds away, terrified that he's injured you and you've got his plate. He'll drive VERY CAREFULLY now that he thinks he's already done a hit-and-run.

But I can't fake a fall and it probably wouldn't work anyway. Still, I like it in my fantasy-world.

You're assuming he looks in his rear view mirror.

Heh - seems like looking through the windshield was difficult enough, so probably he wasn't!

Heh.

More likely, if he ever saw you at all, he'd just glance in his rearview mirror, see you go down, and think, "Cool!", and then do the same thing to the next cyclist he sees, just for the entertainment.

Thank you, the voice of reason If you're on a bike and ill-treated by a cop... call the police department and report your concerns. Police cars are usually very well-labeled with the car number.

The commuting guru in the office when hearing about my recent accident recalled a story of a buddy. I guess he had the same kind of accident, car passes the biker, then turns right and slows down to turn, bike hits car with no-where to go. In his buddies case the cop got to the scene, asked "What-did-ya-do-buddy?" and cited him for passing on the right!!! Anyone else hear of something like that?

While riding cross country a cop stopped behind our follow car, I was waiting to take over and start my pull. I thought we were going to be hassled but nope, he just wanted to chit chat, find out about the race, trade stories, shake my hand, find out about our charity we were trying to support, talk about local rides....real nice guy. I have a picture of it if you want to see a cop who isn't being a d**k.

I would have thought that everything to the right of the white line *is* the shoulder i.e. it's the bike that's facing the right way, not the car. Besides, maybe it was in the middle of nowhere. Maybe it was a one way street. Maybe it was a dead end. Maybe it wasn't a road but a car park...
