riding through a crime scene

This morning during my daily commute to FT Lee from my home in Chesterfeild County, VA I came across a crime scene. Not knowing anything about it and seeing 10 police cars, a police mobile command RV, and 2 TV news vans, I stopped and asked one of the reporters if it was safe to ride by. They told me a home invasion/murder occured the previous night. They asked to interveiw me about the case and stood threre over my Surly Crosscheck and answered their questions. Those of you in the Richmond, VA area can watch the story tonight on NBC 12 or CBS 6. I don't know if they'll play my interveiw or not.

Bikes: pre-1993 Specialized HardRock, has Suntour derailleurs/shifters

What did they think to ask you about? I mean, you were just passing by the day after.

Gotta love TV "journalists".
"Sir, what do you think about this event that you know nothing about? The public has the right to know!"

You sure you aren't a suspect? Hmmm.

What's cool is when you are on a bike, it's not rubbernecking, it's "bystanding."

I hope you had fenders on so you would not get victims or suspects DNA splattered on you.

Basicly they asked me if I still felt safe in the neighborhood and the like. I missed seeing it on the news because I don't make it home until after 1830. Funny you should mention me a suspect becuase my coworkers said the same thing all day. A couple of people I hadn't even told came up to me saying they'd seen it. Unfortunately they only filmed my upper body and the Surly wasn't in the shot. Though, I was wearing a bike cap and a reflective vest. I don't wear any cycling specific petroleum based clothing so I must've looked liek some crazy construction worker wearing a beani.

Update: Last Friday they arested 4 suspects and another turned himself in on Monday(I guess he wanted to enjoy one more weekend of freedom). Turns out one of the suspects lived only 2 blocks from me.

Be careful out there.

I once rode under a bridge by an area taped off by police. I noticed what appeared to be a body covered by a police tarp. This was at 6:30am. Some poor soul had thrown himself off the bridge about an hour earlier.

I wonder if he woke up early to do it?

LOL,
have to be politically correct now. They use the term person of interest

How random that I come across a thread like this today. On my ride to work this morning, my usual route was blocked off, but they left an alley open that runs along side the street. When I came out of the alley about 2 blocks down, the street was still blocked off. I rolled up behind a cop, who must have been dozing off, cause I asked if it was ok to ride through from here, and he just about shat himself. He looked iritated and said I had to go all the way around. Totaly messed up my ride.
I told my wife later, and she got mad, she's all like, what if he turned around and shot you? Hmmmm I never thought of that. Oh well.

"Wow, it's a real shock, I wouldn't have expected it in a quiet neighborhood like this".
