Bar ends

I'm looking for quality bar-ends for my straight bar Specialized Sirrus bike. I'm not a small man, 254+(but losing, was 278) so need something that won't slip or turn. I also currently have a screwend small mirror on the left bar-end now. And would like to be able to keep the mirror if possible.

I'm not sure what defines quality bar ends. I've used WalMart'd, Blackburn, Nashbar and Profile brands with equally satisfactory results. I'd say the biggest problem for you would be the style, short and stubby, long and curved, in-between and chubby? Best thing to do would probably be pick up some cheapies to see if the style suits you. Then you can consider more expensive ones if you'd like

What's you riding style, mup amblin or road warrior? Looking for more hand positions or trying to get down and aero?

Bikes: LeMond Maillot Jaune, Vintage Trek 520 (1985), 1976 Schwinn Voyageur 2, Miyata 1000 (1985)

I use the Rivendell Silver Shifters. No index, friction only. Man, they are nice.

I think he means bar ends, like the ones you would find on straight mountain bike bars, not bar end shifters

The bar ends that I've used all had a screw that would tighten their grip around the handle bar, so if it slips you can tighten it a little more. I weigh around 240 (and not losing dam it!) and didn't have a problem.

If your mirror fits into the hollow end of the handle bar, then you most likely can still use it. You will probably have to remove the mirror to put on the bar end and then reinstall it. If your mirror wraps around the handle bar, then you probably won't be able to use it with bar ends.

Just looking for more hand positions for those longer lazy rides.

I'm about 220 and I use bar ends made by Profile Design on my MTB commuter. I can't seem to find the exact ones, but they look like these. I was a bit apprehensive at first to lean hard into them, but I do now and I've never had them slip.

On my Sirrus I've got nice long Profile Design bar ends. Love em.

I'd recommend Cane Creek Ergo Control II Bar Ends. They are very comfortable. The outer rubber surface provides a nice, non-slip gripping surface. I like 'em.
