I hate cars. I had 6 different cars in the 6 years after I got my license. They had problems costing hundreds to fix, but yet they all died horrible deaths, including 2 blown transmissions, a blown head gasket, a cracked engine block, and a snowy highway crash. I just gave up last year when my last car died and since then have become a hardcore commuter, even turning down rides if I know I can get there on my bike. I feel much better about the situation. And now, if my bike needs a tune-up, it still costs less than a tank of gas.

i love cars cause I'm a gearhead, but hate most drivers and mechanics. plus they are expensive. someone bragged they "only" spent 2K on a suspension re-do. whew that would pay for a heck of a nice complete bike!
fyi i spent close to $100k on cars in a 8 year period before i recognized my madness
cheers

That 2k is certainly far from 100k in 10 yrs spent. That car was 5k to begin with when 1st purchsed over 7 yrs ago! Complete suspension redo as well...every piece of rubber and brand new sway bars with adjustable coilover suspension from Germany.

I know many people who just put 2 grand down on a new car just because they want a new car...and pay 20 grand for the thing.

Try $0 down and $550/month for five years. That's right folks, it's 60 payments which go on and on and on......

550 is doable for most people for the first few months, but after that it really starts to take a chunk out of your life - you start thinking gee if I had that money this month I could take that vacation to Cuba next month..... every two months you could be spending a week in Cuba for that kind of money. It's 30 vacations! Nuts.

I hate my stupid car! The only good thing about it is that due to its mechanical problems i got to bike commute all summer. The downside to that is that it rained all summer... The other downside is that i had to use the rural UK train system as well which is just a joke, only not a funny one.

£400 later for a while bunch of new electrical stuff and the car's back up and running, woohoo. Now i get to pay insurance and road tax and £1 a litre diesel... Honestly i'd sell it for scrap if it wasn't for the fact that my GF hates it when i get back home later, the trains are worse than useless in the winter here, and various family members donated towards the car fixing and would be offended if i sold it...

I envy the countries that havent brainwashed their citizens into thinking Cuba is the second worst hell hole country (?) in the world.
