Heavy Duty Inner Tubes
I want to buy some durable inner tubes for my 26 inch by 1.9 inch tires. The ones in the bike now are the originals with some Ride-On tire sealant inside. I've only got about 300 miles on them so it is probably too early to know how durable that combination is.
I just want to get a spare inner tube to carry around in case I get a flat. I was in Wal-Mart and went to the bicycle section and saw a couple of brands of inner tubes that were labeled extra durable. Both brands had slime inside. These tubes have very thick rubber on the outside and thinner rubber by the spoke side of the wheel.
I picked up one package and it was heavy. It didn't say there were two tubes inside the box. It felt like about four pounds.
After a little searching on line I only found one review of the Bell Flatblocker Max inner tube, and it was by someone selling them. It said the outer thickness is 4.3 millimeters.
Of the people here not concerned with the weight of their bicycles, are there any people with experience using these inner tubes?

They're usually called thron resistant tubes and yes they are effective. They will not stop "punctures", they just give more thickness for the punctures to enter through and not cause a leak.
There are also tire liners that are beneficial in this regard as well
The final safeguard is your tire choice. Some tires will repel punctures better than other. Schwalbe comes to mind

I got some super heavy weight downhill specific inner tubes. Can't remember the brand name but they're thick as all hell.

I have some Specialized Thorn Resistant tubes. Yes, they are pretty heavy. Thick too and take up about twice the space if you want to carry one as I do. I can't say a lot about durability as I have only about 800 or so miles on them and have them under Armadillo tires. But, so far, no flats.

The Bell FlatBlocker Max is a single tube in the box on the shelf. It is not a tube to use as spare. You won't be able to patch it. WalMart sells Bell tubes without slime but with thick walls. I can recommend them.
What I suggest and use is a brand new innertube , a tire with at least a Kevlar belt under the tread and a tire liner. I am a Mr Tuffy tireliner convert even though there are things that will go thru the Kevlar belt and the Mr Tuffy and your innertube.
