1st grocery run

I have been commuting for 3 years now on a part time basis. Today was the first time to make a run to the store. We help run a concession stand at the soccer field on the weekend. The wife asked me to get some supplies so I decided to take the bike. It may not sound like much but for me it's a 15 mile round trip. Ironically, I did all that exercise to get a $2.50 box of hunnybuns. The door greeter was nice enough to let me leave my bike inside where she could watch it for the 2 min. I was in the store. Anyway, I feel more like a commuter now.

Here is my route. I took the scenic route home. Only 5 cars in the last 4 miles.

Your nearest grocery is 7 miles away? Wow... have a hard time picturing such a life.

Good job. Looks like you have some nice roads to ride on.

you needed two boxes of hunnybuns- one to replace all the calories you burnt buying the first box

congrats on a fun run for the hunnybun at the request of your honeybun- may you have many more!

Not that hard for me, but our nearest is only a 5-mile round trip. This thread is making me feel guilty for not riding there more often.

Since I don't have a car, I do all my grocery shopping on my bike. Heavy stuff in the back pack and "crunchables" in a plastic bag strung between the shifter "bosses".

For about the last year and a half, I've been lucky to have a grocery store within a mile, but often I end up going to the one 2 miles away due to a better selection and a somewhat persnickety wife.

You've venturing into utility cyclist territory now. Just watch out for those "living car free" guys.

It's 21 mile rt to work. I try to ride it at least 3 days a week. The distance is why I haven't done it more often. But, I may start doing it more if we only have a small amount to get. I like to ride at night some after the family is in bed. This may be the start of a new route.

I will be doing more of this type of cycling from now on, but the number on reason for me is the exercise. I really enjoy having my truck and being a multicar family.

I was so proud when I first started doing my grocery shopping by bicycle, that I took a picture. I have grocery stores within a mile or two though - Whole Foods, King Soopers, Sunflower Market.

Wow, I'm spoiled. Grocery store is a little less than a mile away. I go there 1-3 times daily by bicycle.

That's exactly what my commute was for years. It was fun, and I enjoyed it. But commuting is different from grocery-getting! I don't often get the urge to drop by work at 11 o'clock at night, but I often do want to pick up a snacky around then, or, say, quickly run out the door and get a missing ingredient for supper in under 10 minutes!

The nearest grocery store is around the corner across the street. It's too much hassle to ride there so I walk.
