I don't know how many of you have heard of or watch the BBC 2 show Top Gear, but it had an interesting segment on tonights show where the hosts raced across London by Car, Boat, Public Transport, and Bicycle. Highly entertaining, and of course the bike won

That's not surprising given London's horrible traffic. When I lived there, a car was more a liability than a help. Parking was non-existant, and you could walk nearly as fast as you could drive.
I notice there was no motorcycle or scooter included. I found that to be fastest as you could filter at all stops and lane split while traffic was moving.

Driving in central london is not as bad as it used to be, after the congestion charge. I'm fairly sure that I could drive from Waterloo to West Ham at least as fast as I ride, but it wouldn't be as fun, would be more expensive, and wouldn't get me in shape.
