Bikes: Secret......

Kicked by Commuter - In the Mouth

There is a gate before a steep set of stairs on my Commute. I followed a fellow commuter through the gate and pulled up tight behind him because there is little room and there was someone coming up the stairs.

So the guy in front dismounts by swinging his back leg back over the back wheel in a huge swinging arc. He was a tall guy. And like John Claude Van Damme, he round-house kicked me in the face. Knocked me to the ground. My fault, but still a huge shock!

Anyone else care to post their amusing commuting incidents?

Today while dismounting my bike I kicked this dingleberry in the mouth who was standing RIGHT behind me. LOL

Once I was riding fast down Peachtree Street when I decided to get off at mid-block. The curb was really high. I looked back and saw traffic coming, so I slammed on the front brake to stop quick.

I stopped too quickly. Everything became slo-mo.

My rear wheel lifted too high to keep balance. I instinctively shifted my weight right, toward the curb. That was a good move, suprisingly my rear tire landed up on the high curb. But now I had another problem (still in slo-mo,) I had my rear tire on a very high curb and my front tire in the street, with traffic coming, and me balancing.

Instinctively again, I jerked my front wheel up, then swung it right. It fell in line with my rear wheel on the curb. Quickly, I dismounted on the sidewalk.

As I looked to my right, I noticed a small group of bike messengers eating lunch, watching me.

I pretended I planned it exactly as it happened.

Not really "painfully" amusing, but the other day I was riding down a one-way street when a car turns the corner and starts heading toward me (the wrong way). It was some old crap car with stickers all over it. the car pulls up beside me and the obvious stoner behind the wheel rolls down his window and says, "Hey! I think I'm going the wrong way!" He then rolls up his window and proceeds to drive off in the distance passing multiple intersections still going the wrong way. I even kinda felt high after the encounter. surreal.

Cool. Always look like you planned it .

I did something sort of similar -- though not as cool -- once riding down a street in Shanghai on which bicycles are banned (). A traffic cop jumped right in front of me to get me to stop, and I would have run into him if I hadn't managed to get up on the sidewalk. Somehow I managed to do a swerve/jump/dismount in a single move, and found myself jogging beside my bike, having barely slowed down. I got lots of impressed looks from bystanders for that, but I'd hesitate to try to do it again .

I live in a surburban area that still has some construction going on. During construction they put milk crates with rocks in them to keep the dirt out of the storm drains when it rains. One day I was admiring a very hot jogger and hit one causing me to crash. She had a good laugh watching me get back up.
