Daily? Wow!

I ride my bike to public transportation (BART) ~1 mile on each end making a total of ~4 miles a day most days. And I do a one way commute 26.2 miles twice a week, taking the train in the opposite direction. I ride to work leaving in the dark during winter and ride home when it stays light later and sometimes take the scenic route and make it more like 35 miles. At 1 hour 40 minutes each way I don't have time to do it every day and both directions but it is a great way to get exercise between weekend rides and I enjoy the solitude. Like therapy.

those guys doing 20+ miles one way, how long does it usually take you?

metalchef87 10-01-08 12:14 PM

1 to 2 miles depending on the route I take...but soon might be 15 miles one way.

17mi RT with 23ft of climbing.

Tobias Greenich 10-01-08 12:23 PM

13 miles RT, 6.5 each way. If (when) I get a new bike, I might consider tacking a few extra miles on there.

pathdoc 10-01-08 12:24 PM

10 miles roundtrip.
That gives me 50 miles/week and approx 200 mile/month without even having to work at building up miles. I usually ride another 25 miles or so per weekend non-commuting, just having fun. It all adds up.

kgriffioen 10-01-08 12:26 PM

24 miles rt. Mornings in some where between 43 and 46 minutes. Afternoons home take me about 5 minutes longer. I try for 3 or 4 times per week to work and then longer rides on the weekends.

Caleab 10-01-08 12:47 PM

15 miles r/t for me.

I go from the top of a hill on the east side to midway up the hill on the west side.
So I got hills both ways. Very nice work on my legs =)

Kinda bummed about the weather changing though. I don't have the attire needed yet.

I'm in the process of getting hired at Performance Bike. It's located 10 miles away from my house. I got there in about 30-34 minutes. Once hired, I'll be training in a different county located 35 +/- miles away. That will be for a week or so. My cousins (whom I ride with) asked me how I'm gonna get there. I said, "using my bike of course." :D :thumb:

cyclefreaksix 10-01-08 01:27 PM

20 miles R/T four times a week.

AdamD 10-01-08 01:35 PM

30 miles r/t, every day, luckily I'm in SoCal so there just isn't much of that wet stuff from the sky... what's it called again?

Mister C 10-01-08 03:13 PM

23 to 26miles one way depending upon the route.

Pig_Chaser 10-01-08 03:33 PM

20km (12.4miles) one way

mattm 10-01-08 03:35 PM

~16 mi one way (26 km or so).

and hilly, but scenic.

ZombieButcher 10-01-08 03:59 PM

8 Miles round trip. fairly flat but its on a business section of a freeway. IE no real speed limit but with lights. (there are actually no speed limit signs posted on this street at all.) Also i have to do a freeway exit and off ramp so I have to avoid cars here at night, usually not a problem.

My twice weekly 56 miles RT commute takes me just less than two hours to get to work (~3:50 am to ~5:45) and a bit over two hours to get home.

The fastest was a 1:40 time getting to work, but that is hammering and taking liberties with the traffic lights and stop signs, which normally I am a stickler about.

thisis amazing! 10-01-08 04:22 PM

this thread would work great with a poll attached

8 miles round trip.

GTALuigi 10-01-08 04:42 PM

13km round trip daily.

it's soon going to be 80km round trip.

kev66 10-01-08 05:35 PM

My commute is 1.2 miles RT, takes about 2-3 minutes one way depending on which bike I ride. However, I do ride home for lunch so I guess it is more like 2.4 RT

making 10-01-08 05:42 PM

13.8 each way, today I added 1.2 miles. starting tommorow it will be about 30 miles RT.

desmo13 10-01-08 05:43 PM

30 miles round trip. 3 to 4 days a week. 51 min to 1:10 each way, depending on bike and traffic.

lightningcow 10-01-08 06:58 PM

Little over 12mi daily with a good deal of climbing. I have to pass over the bay and there is a fairly tall bridge with hills on both sides of the water.

pirate 10-01-08 07:05 PM

a little under 30 round trip if I take the bike path most of the way. Its less if I ride on a major road, only 23 round trip, but I'd have to ride on a road with an intersection ranked 10th most dangerous in the US by state farm (Fair Oaks blvd and Watt ave) and a lot of reckless drivers. Not worth it to me.

Barrettscv 10-01-08 07:14 PM

The one way distance from home to work is 30 miles.

I will;

Bike 20 miles & take the bus 10 miles to complete a one way commute from the middle of April to mid September.
Drive 9 miles, bike 11 miles & travel by bus 10 miles from mid September to mid April.

Thats the plan for now.
