Messengers with unwieldy packages...

Seen yesterday in NYC:

Older messenger type with hair dyed screaming yellow, beard dyed crimson red. Guy is riding along left hand holding the bars, the right hand holding a 19" flat screen monitor in a box, balancing it on the handlebars.

I'd bet that monitor didn't survive it's trip.

19" flat panel LCD should either fit in your bag, or get strapped to a front rack like a racing number, braced against the bars (that's how I carry frozen pizzas.)

I've strapped a trombone to me via messenger bag, and it was comfy.

If that messenger had any skillz, I bet that box got to its destination intact. Hills might be a problem...

Oddly enough, I saw someone today carrying a BBQ grill chained to the handle bars with the legs of the grill straddling the front tire. Wish I had a camera.

That would be Dino Sex, ex-drummer of the Murder Junkies & long-time messenger. The box probably got there just fine.

Sat across from that guy on the N train yesterday...

In any case, the most unwieldy thing I've seen recently was a lady with a rather large tree in her mess bag on Lafayette St..

In Cairo we commonly see people carrying all kinds of unlikely loads on on bikes. Picture a man balancing a palette covered in chickens on his head and smoking a cigarette while weaving through the craziest rush hour traffic you ever saw. I'll post pictures when I can.
