I almost got right hooked today.

Some dumb lady in her SUV passed me and then proceeded to sit at the left side of the lane at the stop sign (you know, where people go to make a left turn) without signaling. I was going slow as I was too lazy to unclip, but didn't want to go and have her pass me again. So I figured she was giving me the right of way, so I pulled up to the limit line after about 15 seconds of waiting behind her. Luckily I was going slow enough to stop right away as she started to turn right in front of me.

I wish I had chased her down to tell her thats how cyclists get hurt or killed.

Luckily I didn't; but I might not be so lucky next time.

The similar thing happens to me sometimes. Normally I try to play nice by waiting in traffic like everyone else, but it doesn't always work out.

I've never hit a car, thanks to good brakes, but it's really only a matter of time. I'm not really concerned about being seriously injured by this; it's pretty obvious when its about to happen, and any impact would be low speed. It's still extremely annoying though.

I could see a lefthook coming at me going home last night, I was heading for an intersection and I saw somebody coming at me really floor it to beat the light, but I was just ahead of him after all. Got me thinking of how seldom I do get in the lefthook zone, kinda lucky.

Back in the 60s, when I was still in high school, I got right hooked. In those days cars had big handles with a push button on them. I was able to grab the handle and got dragged around the corner with the driver's kid's face up against the glass of the passenger door yelling, "MOMMMMM!" A modern car would have knocked me down, maybe under the rear wheel. I gave her my best dirty look and rode away knowing that her kid would tell the whole family and she wouldn't zone out next time she saw a biker in her way.

Opposite situation for me: A couple weeks ago I was in the left side of the lane at a 4-way stop and when it was my turn some kid in a crummy little 4-banger, wannabe sports car came flying around me on the right and nearly edged me into the oncoming cross traffic just so he didn't have to wait one more cycle at the stop.
