Questions about Planet Bike BRT-3F

I'm looking at these amber 3 led lights as possible side marker lights, but I am unable to tell from any of the descriptions I've found so far if they will a) mount on a steel fork blade and still keep the optimal beam pattern (i.e. so far as I can tell the light itself has to be more or less horizontal) or b) will run on the lesser voltage of NiMH batteries.

The price is right through the amazon store but only if they will work.

Thanks!

I use two of them mounted on the front fork of my commuter. I have them angled towards the front so they can be seen both the front and the sides. I also have them pointed down a bit, which provides a nice amber glow on the ground on both sides up front when riding on really dark stretches of my commute. (This "down wash" effect is only obvious when it's really dark.) You can position them straight up and directly to the side if you want.

The lights aren't exceptionally bright (nothing close to the Planet Bike Super Flash) but I like them as side markers. I haven't tried them with rechargeable batteries, maybe I can do that tomorrow and let you know.

The circumference of my fork where I have the lights mounted is approximately 2 - 5/8 inches. I used a few winds of electrical tape around the fork to make it a tight fit.

Fantastic and thanks so much!

I am curious about whether they'll run on NiMH, so if you try it, please let me know.

I've got valve stem lights now, but all they seem to really light is the opposite side of the rim, and the batteries are throwaway button cells.

I "designed" a hybrid system similar to Cycle2work's. Since I attached my Superflash taillights on a homemade angle bracket at the back of my rack, I used their brackets to install the BRT-3F onto my forkblades.

My setup has the following advantages :

– Lights are a bit higher and clear front panniers when I install them. They also remain relatively clean.
– Lights are horizontal, which I think looks a bit better.

With AAA rechargeables, I can use the lights for at least 10-15 hours between charges.

You've got to be kidding. The popular online bike retailers could probably beat Amazon's price on any bike item.

I guess some people haven't yet discovered that Amazon IS a "popular online bike retailer." Their free shipping makes them tough to beat on lots of products.
