To Philly-area commuters : advice needed
Having recently moved from South Jersey to the western suburbs of Philly, I'm now trying to find a good route through west/southwest Philly. Any advice? I'm going from Collingdale near the trolley to 34th/University Ave section of UPenn, and am not very impressed with the Woodland Ave/Chester Ave options. There also seems to be only two options across Cobbs Creek. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm not familiar with your exact route, but you may want to check out some Philly sites.
Good luck!

from glenoldenish, i take oak lane, to providence road i think it is, then hop on lansdown ave till it hits baltimore ave. i take baltimore ave till like 40th, then cross over to chestnut or whatever.
know what i mean kinda? it might not be faster, but it seems safer to me.

patric,
Yea, I've tried down Baltimore, and it seems alittle better than Woodland. the difference in mileage isn't really different by more than a 1/2 mile or so, guess I'm just trying to find better (or at least other) options. I'll try your route next time, & see how it goes. there are a few turns in Lansdowne, though I think... thanks

I live in West Philadelphia and used to commute for 10 miles each way on Baltimore Ave, including the West Philly part of it.
Baltimore is definitely a good choice in west philly. Check this route out

Whoever mapped out the route chose great streets. The West Philly part of the route doesn't look as run-down (possibly dangerous?) as along Woodland Ave. The route is about as hilly as any of your alternatives, and car traffic won't give you trouble.

thanks for the map, Cerewa! I haven't tried Whiby St yet, that might be my next route when I head to work tomorrow
