I loved the one about bike paths today!! My Commuting Meetup is deeply engaged in a message thread about the old bike lane/path vs. VC debate and it was just so relevant.

Everyone I know who sees the strip says Yehuda looks like me, except I wear glasses. And a helmet (usually).

I too love the cartoon. I visited your referenced site. I am amazed. We cyclists as a group are insane. B bike commute and ride for fun on the weekends in the 'burbs of California. A lot of the suggestions on that forum would get me killed in a day if I tried them here. Maybe they work in cities, or Portland.

I started to reply via private message, but then I thought others might benefit from hearing your answer. (Although we should keep it short, or Rick will get annoyed at us for hijacking his most excellent thread, and/or a moderator will doom us to A&S!)

I'm not clear what exactly amazed you. The VC suggestions on the bike lane thread we have going, or other material on the site in general? I'm a fairly VC rider myself, and yes, I think it does work pretty well in Portland, Maine. Where, by the way, we do not have a lot of bike-specific infrastructure, which is why I learned to ride in traffic pretty much from the start. But I'm at a disadvantage in that this is the only place I've ever ridden frequently, so I can't speak to the experience in other places. I'm told it is not as good. :(

No thread hijacking. This is the Yehuda thread. :D

Just ordered my shirt! Keep up the good work on the strip, I enjoy the multiple story lines running through it (kind of like real life!).

I turned my wife on to the strip, she's hooked now too.

JohnBrooking 04-05-08 03:24 PM

Great one today, too! I wish I could get more early morning riding in. (And that it wasn't so d*mn early!)

BTW, cccorlew and I have taken our discussion into private messaging.

Here's a few Yehuda Moon strips in progress, at various stages of completion:

At the risk of being thought a thread hijacker, I'd like to point out I've been animated. Can I make a guest appearance in the strip? :-)

I liked it. The ones about painting/repainting the lanes and signs hit home. I've often thought of doing that.

Keep it up.

I can think of no one more deserving.

Some ideas:

I (heart) bicycles
I have road rage

?

Rick

I had some bumper stickers I made by downloading a template and used a printer and some avery labels that read" I'm Changing The Climate! Ask Me How!" The kids and I would stick them on SUV's in parking lots. At one time there was a website devoted to that activity. This must have been 7 or 8 years ago.

Is this the one?

Great strip, I finally got around to plugging it on my site.

Keep up the great work.

Hey! A fellow dotmac blogger! Cool!

devianb 04-07-08 05:39 PM

I find the Joe character really hilarious. I like how many of the scenarios are relatable.

robtown 04-07-08 06:29 PM

I put the "And miss this" strip about riding in the snow up in my cubicle. I'm often over prepared and disappointed when mother nature wimps out.

Love my mac. Found iweb to be so much easier to use and personalize. The banner on my first page was taken when I was on the bike path a few weeks ago.

Me too! I actually posted it outside my cubicle. Everyone says I look like Yehuda.

Old Dirt Hill 04-07-08 08:40 PM

Love the strip and have been reading since you first started talking about it here on the forums. I like the shirts but haven't bought one yet. I'd really like one that just had the Yehuda drawing on the front with the website address on the back across the shoulders (or now that I think about it, vice versa).

I know you're not taking requests, so just my $.02. Keep up the good work, can't wait to read the comic every day.

Old Dirt Hill 04-07-08 08:43 PM

Just saw the pics you attached of the strip in progress. Those are great, wouldn't mind seeing more. ;)

Is Yehuda Canadian by an chance?

Rick Smith 04-09-08 04:38 PM

If there's one more instance of it, it becomes a meme, right?

Who's got paint?

zeytoun 04-09-08 05:08 PM

(I'm highly critical, and don't give out praise often)

Your strip is f-in' brilliant.

DCCommuter 04-09-08 05:11 PM

Rick --

Here's my idea for a punchline. Someone asks the mayor why they painted over the bike lanes, because they were so much better placed than all the other ones in town, even if the lines weren't straight.

The mayor responds, "well, it never occurred to us to ask a cyclist where they should go."
