That's interesting because my '80s Shogun road bike came with a Vetta saddle and i swore it could have swapped it for an anvil and never noticed the difference! To me it was the worst saddle I ever rode, just behind Specialized BG brick that came on my Rockhopper.

My Specialized Alias carbon - now that's much, much better!

I have been really happy with a number of Velo saddles I have... the "Plush" on presently on my Twenty isn't that plush but is sprung and has a cutout which makes it very good for extended riding and the other non sprung Velos on a number of my other bikes have also proved themselves to be very good as well.

All in all I have 4 leather saddles from a number of makers, 5 Velo saddles, several non leather sprung Brooks saddles' and several Avocet touring saddle that I am also quite happy with.

I must try one of those Specialized saddles. I have a friend that swears by them.

I've got a Bontrager Race Lite on my go-fast bike, and I dig it pretty well. The shell is flexible enough that I don't feel like it's punching me in the backside when I hit some rough road, and the padding is minimal enough that I don't get any soft-tissue pressure issues. The cutout channel is comfortable, and the nose is long enough to sit up and steer with when I ride no-hands to stretch my shoulders and back. It's slick enough to avoid chaffing from having my shorts 'catch', but there's an embroidered bit on the contact points to keep me from sliding around too much once I've planted my cheeks where I want them.

Like I said, I put the seat on my commuter mtb briefly and it was brutal! Just a few degrees more upright made an enormous difference in pain. I also tried one of B-17s on the commuter and had the same trouble, but on my road bikes they are wonderful.
