You better believe, we'll be tested again. Will we pay $4/gal, I bet we will, and "they" will test us some more. We haven't seen the end.
And yeah, I am going to plant a victory garden ;). Home grown veggies would taste lovely this time of year. I need to find a way to dog proof a garden. I do agree that $7 is on the wall. <-- broken record What are food prices in say the UK with $7 a gal? It seems to me we are going to need to find more local supplies for our foods if we don't want to spend half our income on food and the other half on gas. I wonder what the prices at our farmers market will be this year. |

I miss the old CNN/Headline News, when you could get a quick-shot of news 24/7. Between Glen and Grace, I just don't watch it anymore.

Ah Dogs.
I do not like dogs. I have often wondered why every eco-hippie I know has dogs. Do dogs not take up natural resources. I even know people who had no kids because they think there are too many people and yet have a crap load of dogs. How much CO2 could we save if dogs were not around. Its a huge market. its not just the food its the supplies, vet care and driving them around to places. Pets are a 43 BILLION dollar market in the US alone. You dog loving hippies are KILLING THE PLANET!!! JK |
I would have mine bite you but labs tend to lick more than anything. Plus, I have a kid as well. Three children in total. 2 with fur and 1 biped without fur.
Oh wait.... my 4 month old puppy will bite anything. |

Just like Olberman is a liberal and beck is supposed to be a conservative etc. etc. etc. These documentary pieces used to be something too. Now they are just full of lies based upon whatever market they think will buy it. |

nah
Tis the cows. Who needs beef anyways... That and we need more lactose intolerant people. With the price of milk being what it is and the fact that I am moderately lactose intolerant I have just about given the stuff up. |
The offensive thing to me is the assumption that you need to do this all at once--80% need to take public transportation or bike/walk and reduce travel. That's ignorant.
No doubt if we reduced automobile traffic by 10% and increased biking/walking/public transportation by 10% that we'd begin to make a dent. More importantly, we'd start something that could be significant. |

Why? Mainly because it is one of those intangible ideas, that fits all molds, it can be adapted to anyone's politics, you only know of it's existence because of government, and you can't really tell if there is an improvement except through the government. Sounds similar to how world leaders in ancient times used religion to control people. Leaders used statements like "God Speaks through me, and he wants you go slaughter everyone in country X because they don't believe, now go in peace". How many pro global warming politicians do you know that commute to work in the morning by bike? How many have given up there limos and sworn off air travel? Point is, that if global warming is happening, it is impossible to know what is real and what isn't due to how heavily it has been politicized and perverted to the speaker's personal agenda. I chose to cycle because I want to, I enjoy it, it makes me feel good, and it gets me outdoors. I do it for me, not for a politician or some environmental group. |
Its your dogs.
You just dont want to give up what is important to you. Pot meet Kettle. That is the entire country and their cars. When you shoot your lab to end global warming. |
All righty. I was approaching this as a joke but now you have irritated me.
I suggest you shoot yourself first. Even better... I will do it for you. |
I didn't watch the video. Glenn Beck is the 3rd most listened to radio talk show in the USA, behind Rush Limbaugh and Laura Schlessinger.
I'm a global warming denier as well. |

I chose to cycle because I want to, I enjoy it, it makes me feel good, and it gets me outdoors. I do it for me, not for a politician or some environmental group. The difference is, one is intellectually difficult and the other is physically difficult. I'm not so sure about the causes of global warming either. However, I'm quite sure we're to blame for at least part of it. Humans have an effect on the environment, when there are as many living an industrialized life as there are. That doesn't mean we have to all ditch our cities and offices and live in tribes. No, it just means we have to try to be efficient and conservative about our lifestyle. And that DOES mean no yearly cross world trip. But who can afford that anyway?! I make decent money, but I know I'd never blow $5k+ a year for my vacation! How silly. And it does mean trying to drive less. It's not that hard. Ride your bike to work if that works for you. Walk in your neighborhood instead of the mall sometimes (that'll help your billfold). Plant a tree. Trim your shrubs (it does nothing for the environment, just do it anyway). Or shrug it off and say "that's silly, I don't feel like it." I think I'll go for a drive and get a "double mocha triple latte super sugar encrusted fat glob." I think the merit of the study was actually to highlight how little we can do by cleaning up each consumers act. How important it is to keep up and coming industrialized nations in touch with these things. And why we should probably be looking at other possibly damaging factors. I've heard some people on this forum swear that biking to work will solve this issue. This study is saying "probably not, but it would help and here's how far we need to take it to make it work." |

Well, if we had a majority of politicians who gave a crap about global warming I might be with you on that argument. Anyway, I'll side with the million year old ice core findings. |
I surmise that he can comfortably take this stance because unlike the majority of americans he probably falls into the class of people that can afford $7 a gallon gas. People have 2 choices, Let supply and demand decrease the amount of people in cars as demand and prices increase exponentially as supply dwindles (and it will whether from too few refineries or declining oil fields eventually) or, encourage a little conservation to help it all last longer so that everyone can afford to drive. Either way less people are going to drive. One is friendly to poor people, one is not.

His problem is that he was brought up with a serious "sense of entitlement". Some people see there lives as finite and decide to take take take while they live on this planet. Screw the future generations.

He's probably a conduit for thousands of other morons like himself, unfortunately. This is true of most people in the media, and especially true of politicians. Our economic system is geared for infinite growth in a finite world. |
