Dude, where's my Superflash?

As I was about to leave this morning, I look over and see

OH NO!!! What happened to my Superflash? It's fallen off before, but I picked it up and replaced the broken back with the back of a same size PB blinkie I had and it's been fine since. Luckily, knowing the back was kinda loose, I picked up

last year. Anyone else have problems with loose backs on these things?

I lost one of mine, but it was a rather extreme situation. I hit something in the road hard enough to pinch flat both tires, cause my handlebars to rotate down, and the superflash mount twisted downward and the front came off. If the mount had stayed put I think it might have stayed together.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

This happened to me twice. The superflash mounted on my rear rack is reinforced with a zip tie.

Bikes: yes!

The rubber gasket doesn't stay seated and can get bound up when closing, resulting in poor fastening. Always make sure you get a clean clicky closure.

Still, I imagine anyone can lose one this way.

I also zip tied the light enclosure back to the mount, and just disassemble leaving back in place on bike - like in your picture.

I've had the SuperFlash mounted to my seatpost for about 6K miles. Rough riding in some places. I reach back after a big jolt to check it is still there. It always is.

Yeah, mine has fallen apart a couple of times. Usually it's when it's attached to my messenger bag and I brush it against a door frame or something. It's not a big deal to put it back together, but I do wonder if I might just lose it some day.

I had one of my Superflash's fall off its battery door. For the next model, they should use a sliding door that is separate from the structure.

I never thought to check the warranty! Thanks for the reminder. I'll drop them a line tomorrow.

A bit of exterior electrical tape around the sealing surfaces keeps all of my lights in one piece (and dry).

+1 for a ziptie. Just wrap it right around the middle so it holds the light together and to the bracket. I lost one when it popped out of the bracket when going over some rough pavement...

keeping them dry is not an issue...someone washed their light and when it came out it was in on mode

i did lose the cap to one of my old blinkies so i made a new one using some old acrylic paint from a pallette, i peeled it off and formed it around the body of the light and used clear tape to keep it on...that was a fun little fix for me...ill need to shoot pictures of that and post them later

Success! They're sending me a replacement under warranty! My brand loyalty is even higher than it normally is.

I had my superflashes permanently mounted to my bicycle and clipped to my trunk bag or helmet. I haven't lost one yet.

I keep my PB Superflash Stealth clipped to my pannier bag. I feel it absorbs more shock than being attached directly to the frame or rack.

This year, I may clip it to our Christmas tree!

Jinxed! I read this thread yesterday, and this morning my headlight comes flying off my handlebars and I proceed to run over it. Then a car ran over it. End of headlight, and a trip to the LBS at lunchtime to replace it. Not a Superflash though, it was a Cateye.

Slightly OT, I got a US relative to send me a Superflash taillight after reading the SF love on this forum, and now I love it too (though I think the Cateye LD1100 gives it a run for its money). But what do you think about the SF headlight? Is it worth getting?

My Superflash (or the cover) have never come off my bike. I usually clip it to my seatbag but sometimes use the mount and attach to a chain stay. (Currently not doing that because my clip-on fenders interfere with the mount.)

However, I have lost a number of other brands of tail-lights over the years. Usually they fall off when I hit a bump. One time that happened, a car ran over the light before I could go back and retrieve it. Other times the impact of hitting the ground ruined the light.

I've lost two or three blinkies over the last year most of them Superflashes. They were mounted to the back of a rack. I now use a zip tie or rubber band on each one to keep them attached.

HAH! Today I lost a nondescript blinkie on a mid-day ride to an off-site meeting.

Shortly thereafter, I was given a Planet Bike blinky 7!
Not a Superflash, but at least as good as what I had before!
