Blaze orange jersey?

I have a blaze orange jersey, Performance brand. It's several years old and I've been looking for another. All I find that's really bright are the hi-viz yellow/green. I know they're highly visible, but the blaze orange is so bright it almost hurts to look at it. Nashbar/Performance don't make blaze orange any more. Any sources?

blaze orange looks brown at night

maybe thats why?

but I agree with you I like the orange color better (I hardly ever ride at night)
but ALL you can find are the hi-viz chartreuse (yellow/green) which I don't particularly like (it makes me look like a bass fishing spinnerbait!)

orange is my favorite, too! but i am kind of converting to the dark side (lime) because i like to ride at night more than daytime and only want one set of gear. plus i read someplace that some cities are changing their visibility clothing to the lime color, because it differentiates people from the orange equipment and signage.

While wearing a super bright orange jersey, we were hit by a pickup truck from behind at about 45 mph at noon on a bright sunny day on a quiet frontage road. Oh, rather conspicuous, there was 2 of us wearing the same outfit on our tandem. Driver's claim: "didn't see you!"

Thanks for all the replies. It's hard to tell from the pictures just how bright these are. The one I have from Performance almost glows, it's so bright.

Oddly enough every time I wear my blaze orange performance jersey on the road always come across some "flatlander" who wants to yell at me for riding on in the street this includes police officers, rednecks, little old ladies, and other citizenry both reputable and disreputable. I never had any problems when I was wearing hi-vis yellow, or even basic colors like white or red.

The reason you can't find blaze orange anymore is because at night, your eyes switch to monochrome (rods instead of cones). In that mode of vision, that dazzlingly brilliant blaze orange transforms into a nondescript shade of black. That is obviously a safety issue, so orange is no longer really used.

....which really isn't an issue in the middle of summer, when my commute starts and ends in blazing sunlight. I don't really think companies are that concerned, since they sell BLACK jerseys. I would chalk the disappearance of blaze orange to sales volume, and no other reason. If blaze orange sold like hotcakes, they would still offer it.

I am not fond of high-viz yellow/green as a color, but it definitely the most visible in a range of light conditions. I also have some orange jerseys, but I try to wear my high-viz green or yellow jerseys when riding in the dark. Orange and red are good for daylight, however.

Bikes: Condor Italia + Marin Muirwoods (which got me back into riding)

I commute in the Gore Xenon longsleeve jersey https://www.gorebikewear.com/1164920285634.html at the moment. Comes in white, yellow and orange and the silver highlights are very reflective.

They also similar jackets in windstopper and water resistant fabrics. Not sure how easy they are to get hold of in the US though.

Swobo makes a bright orange s/s wool jersey that, at $105, is slightly cheaper than the Ibex. It's a fairly bright orange (I have the baselayer in the same color rather than the actual jersey), but it's definitely not as bright as the AlertShirts, which are practically radioactive and a great option if you don't need zippers/pockets.

Kucharik also makes an orange wool jersey for $90.

I have a couple orange Canari jerseys as well. Got one at Nashbar and one at Sierra Trading Post, but can't find any orange ones for sale at the moment.

I too have a bright blaze orange long sleeve jersey from Performance. It only gets worn about twice per year during the redneck holiday otherwise known as the annual deer hunt. I don't hunt myself but blaze orange clothing is pretty much required unless you're going to stick to the most popular of trails. I'd rather not get shot at while riding through the trees at roughly the same pace a deer would run.

I wish I could find a cycling oriented jacket in that same exact color.

BTW, deer are colorblind and therefore see the orange as brown. However, high viz yellow is something they can discern and it will spook them. I don't want to aggravate the gun toting redneck old wild west mountain man wannabes either.

At $12.99 I don't suppose it would breathe particularly well but we're not talking about a daily commute jacket either.

The Ibex can be purchased for closer to 90 at several places. I realize it's outside the range of what most people are wanting to spend, but it's a great jersey. I have the red one because I found it on clearance somewhere, but I'd rather have the carrot color.
