What do you think?

As some of you know the DNC is comming to Denver August 25-28, 2008. I am seriously thinking about taking the train to downtown Denver and riding my mountain bike around to film the protestors or what ever exciting thing that I may get some footage of.
I think it will be cool to see some history since the recreate '68 group has booked the largest park right outside of the state capital and almost all of the other parks have been booked and permits for demonstrations are being approved right now. My bicycle will allow me to move around the city quickly and I should be able to get out of some areas pretty fast if needed. Do you think this is a bad idea?

It's politics, man... best to just stay as far away as possible!

I would say go for it. When the RNC comes to St.Paul I'm tempted to ride there and watch the madness (from a safe distance of course!)

Make sure you don't get yourself arrested as a 'subversive'. I mean, you're on a bike after all...

If you're anywhere near and have a video camera, I expect that in pretty short order you'll get put into a cage ER, I mean "free speech zone" where you won't be able to see anything except other troublemakers. And you'll probably have trouble flying from then on. I'm not too optimistic about the home of the "free" anymore.

Good luck.

Heck yes.

Protesters and police everywhere. Not to mention that the light rail E line goes by the pepsi center.
I may work at home that entire time. I am not one for interesting commutes.

You know, as a former US Marine, I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the death to give you the right to say it.

Now that I'm not active any more, I'll do my darndest to keep well out of the way....

It still does bother me that any PEACEFULL protestor would be silenced.... I swore to support and defend the constitution.... The first ammendment is the MOST important ammendment (Probably why its 1st! )

Sorry for the rant....Just kinda my pet peeve.

Billy

Riding around Boston when the DNC was here in '04 was great. Everybody left town. Summer is usually quiet anyway, but it was really a ghost town that week.

Agreed. But the problem is that nowadays they're rarely peaceful. Just the other week we had demonstrations in DC where they were blocking traffic on main roads during rush hour. Actions like this just serve to create confrontation, they do nothing to get a political point across.

I know a lot of people are "saving teh wurld" on their bikes like good little liberals, but from a cost-for-benefit standpoint, I can't for the life of me figure out why conservatives haven't approached the bicycle with a little more voracity. Really, it's right up their alley if you look at it that way.

Careful there, it's sounding a lot like a prevalent cyclist demonstration.

I'm so conservative, it would make your head spin..... Why do you think I ride? I'm broke!!!!!! (It just happens that my wife is a granola munchin hugatree )

I believe Thomas Jefferson was right when he said "The Government that governs least, governs best". I also believe that if the government can spend $2BILLION on a B-2 bomber that is too prescious to ever see combat, then the government can also fork out a billion or three on major science initiatives! They said going to the moon would cost something like $500 Million (to create a manned, perminant station).... There's four moon bases that just crashed on Guam the other day (A B2 crashed and burned about two weeks ago)

We need to throw a TON of money into Fuel cells, and a TON of money into Photovoltaic and Wind power... I personally believe that EVERY home in america should have solarcells and a power generating windmill... It should be required on every new home, and should be mandated on any home undergoing ANY refurbashment...... The technology is out there.... The American people just need a "push" to get it going (that push would also drive up production and drive down cost)

Sorry.....Got off track

Billy
