clearly I need some conditoning

The post to Mr. Hillclimber made me post this.

I've been more or less in hibernation (<100 km/wk) over the winter, but as the weather has turned for the better this week, I've been trying to get more riding in.

Going along the lakeshore MUP, I follow a rollerblader for about 5 km, at a speed of about 30 km/h (approximately 20 mph for you USians). At this point I'm fairly impressed as few rollerbladers even top out at 30 in my experience. Anyhoo, I pass the guy eventually, stay ahead for about 2 km, until he passes me on an uphill (!). After he turns around, I pass him and go on for a while.

I eventually spotted him on my return journey, SMOKING A CIGARETTE!!!

Clearly, I have a long way to go before I'm conditioned for the summer.

At least he wasn't smoking as he passed me on the hill climb...

Skaters can go insanely fast. Skating pacelines are sometimes the fastest thing in Central Park!
