Performance now sells Batavus bikes
The Performance store in Chicago (on Halsted and Diversey) now stocks Batavus bikes. According to the sales guy, they serve as the one Performance test store in the country for these wonderful bikes. He said he could order any bike from the Batavus catalog, but you cannot get them online or by phone. I particularly find this interesting because I don't think of Performance as a trendsetter. Does that mean that bicycle retailers are finally taking commuting serious?
I believe they had an "Old Dutch" in store. The traditional "Oma fiets" with or without 3-speed. Introduction sales price is $799
However, I was more interested in the "Personal Bike Delivery": Sturdy front and rear baskets, fenders, lights, dynamo hub, double kickstand, a rear wheel lock and a lock integrated in the headset. A unique serial number highly visible in the frame. Attached picture doesn't show 3-speed shimano Nexus hub. Introductory sales price is $1049
This may sound like a lot of money, but the price is actually lower than store prices in the Netherlands. If I have a little time this weekend, I may take the "Personal Bike Delivery" for a spin.

PS. THis may sound like a sales pitch, but I'm just partial to Dutch bikes. They remind me of growing up in the Netherlands.
