Prius

They are selling a lot of electric cars and scooters in my area. I had a gal on an electric scooter pass me and I never heard her until she was right beside me. She was traveling about 25 MPH on the shoulder of the road and passed within a couple of feet of me. I was going about 17 MPH.

No, they do electric all of the time, except for when the big battery is very low. They CAN do electric only up to 42 mph. The gas engine either runs or not depending on conditions (e.g. throttle setting, battery charge, engine temp). Also, the AC works without the gas engine. If I drive up to a place where I have to wait for somebody, I can park the car, leave it powered on, leave the AC on, and the engine won't restart until the big battery gets very low, or I put the transmission into drive.

When driving a Prius looking out for people who are relying on audio only is a challenge, but something that has to be done. My first time driving through a parking lot almost bagged a pedestrian.

I can see why people are unhappy with Prius drivers who don't take their silence into account.

The kicker is when I let a Prius sneak up on me. I should know better. Sometimes I turn around and one is just there.

People are going to have to get used to it. In a few years there'll be full electrics driving around pretty commonly.

and they will likely have tweels on them, which are suppose to be extremely quiet as well.

I look forward to that day that most of the noise pollution goes away.

I must be one of the few people with no problem with them. They may be quiet, but I can always sense their presence when near.

It's a tough call because the other option is to honk and startle them even more.
honk further back or just bump the horn slightly. Just a thought.

I've never had a problem with hybrids. I find that buses tend to sneak up on me unheard. Kind of scares you when you're relaxed, enjoying the beach scenery and that salty smell
