I don't live in your area, but do ride a unicycle on the MUP around here.

Actually, it's faster than walking, but slower than jogging. This is with a 20" unicycle. People with larger unicycles do get up into bicycle speeds, though. But the point of it is not to get somewhere; I'm just riding in a big circle anyway. The point is fun, exercise, learning, etc.

Seen over the years on my work commute in the Olympia, WA area:

A 20 something fellow riding a fenderless bike while wearing hip waders

Older(50+) asian gentleman riding a little girls bike (pink & white with 10"? wheels and streamers on the bar ends), he was dressed in a pinstripe suite & London Fog type raincoat, carrying a leather briefcase in one hand.

Elderly gentleman riding slowly on a 3 wheeled trike, carrying his walker in the basket between the rear wheels (not really funny, but made me smile when he waved)

About 2 weeks ago I was riding in on the MUP and coming towards me was a guy probably about 6'2" wearing a worn green basball cap, a red gingham dress and carrying a blond baby doll. If you can't picture the dress think of the ones worn by MaryAnn on Gilligan's Island. I must admit I didn't look to see what he was wearing for shoes (or if they went with the outfit).

No. I think I would have figured that one out.

This one only had a couple of dozen entrants, they were spread out into ones and twos, and I was passing them rather than the other way around.

Just this morning while cutting through James Pate Philips State Park, I came upon a Roman candle tube standing in the middle of the 10 foot wide limestone trail. There were no other people anywhere in sight. Next to the tube was one of the pyrotechnics balls with a fresh wick. Laying right next to that was a book of matches with the cover folded behind fresh match sticks just begging some one to light it up.

It made me chuckle, and no, I didn't stop and blow myself up!

Mmmmmm, White Castle...... I moved away from Indy 15 years ago, I don't miss much but I do miss White Castle!

Last year I was traveling for work in central Florida, and decided to go for an early-morning ride. I finished my continental breakfast, and stuffed a biscuit in my pocket for the ride. I didn't have any lights, but figured I'd be safe on this remote 4-lane hwy.

About 50 yards ahead of me I see another bicyclist turn out onto the road, with lights and the whole bit, I was thinking how he looked like a real experienced commuter. I waved, but I guess he couldn't see me in the semi-darkness of dawn. Just as that thought went through my mind, I heard him shriek like a girl, screaming "DON'T EAT ME!!", swerve all over the road and pedal like crazy. I've never seen someone pedal so fast.

When I got up to where he was, there was a black pot-belly standing in the road, he must've been 300 pounds. I remembered I had the biscuit, tossed it to him, and he grunted happily and headed the other direction.

I never could catch up to the other bicyclist, he was out of sight next time I looked up.

i've never seen him while on my bike, but i have seen him while waiting for the bus...

there's a guy in my neighborhood who rides a segway. what's so funny about that? he's blind. he's got a white cane, sunglasses, and everything. it's awesome.

For me, it was certainly when this young lady maybe in her 20s was watching me ride like shes never seen someone on a bicycle before. As shes watching me, she is not paying attention to the sidewalk and walks straight into a sign and subsequently held her forehead in pain and her held her head in shame and embarrassment.

I always enjoy scaring people with my bicycle bell as well.

I feel your pain. I spent eight years in Atlanta without WC.

I think that is why I moved back to Indy from SoCal. No white castles. I dont eat them that often but if you know you cant have them, it makes you want them more.

This is off-topic from funny things seen while commuting, but I've seen frozen White Castles for sale here in Boston. I myself bring back cases of Vernor's ginger ale to Boston from Michigan twice a year.

Last night I rode the long way home via the credit union and saw some things odder than the new pokemon zombies. First was another bike commuter and then a port a pottie with smoke billowing out the door and the roof vent. I called the fire department and they must have put the fire out by the time I rode back. It looked like someone set the toilet paper on fire, I was wondering if it was the aftereffects of too many sliders from White Castle. And after that I saw something most unusual while waiting for a light to change. A BMW car approached with a functioning turn signal! But when they got to the corner I saw a cell phone in her hand, I guess she didn't want to do too much change the stereotype.

Zombie thread, but anyway...
I passed 2 teens on a beach cruiser. One on the saddle, pedalling slowly while drinking beer from a bottle. The front one, sitting sideways on the top tube, steering while smoking a joint. A relaxed ride for sure.

Definitely a zombie thread and I should probably close it. But just so happens I seen something yesterday that just might fit. I was riding out the canal here in town that is drained for repairs right now. They drained it very recently and people are still finding stuff in it like cars and shopping carts etc. Yesterday I was on a new part of trail near town, but still with very little traffic. I came up behind a tall guy probably about my age pushing a muddy rusty mountain bike down the path. Obviously he had just found it in the canal and was taking it home. What I thought was so odd about this is it looked like it would probably fit him. I have a hard time doing that at a bike shop. Hope the old guy fixes it up and rides it for a long time.

This one is something that I saw, but it was definitely my fault.

One day I was commuting across town with my trailer in tow. I had stopped a red light with the intention of turning left. This intersection is a 2 lane + turn lane each way, and it's always stuffed full of cars, so at minimum there were 12 cars watching me. The arrow turned green and I started making my way across the intersection. About halfway through I made the observation "man, I must be getting stronger because it doesn't feel like I'm pulling the trailer at all." At that moment, I looked to my right to see the trailer heading straight down the road across the intersection and subsequently down the slight hill on the other side of it. I had to make the U-turn of shame onto the sidewalk to make my way back and get it, all while grinning from ear to ear (because it was a hilarious situation.)

I'd imagine I entertained a few people at the red light that day. :) I had to tie the trailer to my bike with a shoelace to get it home. :)

A zombie thread for sure, but I couldn't find a newer one that fit.

I was coming home one morning(I was on 2nd shift), and I scared the crap out of a woman riding her bike on the sidewalk. She must have spit her cigarette at least 20 feet. I started laughing while I was apologizing to her for scaring her, and she swore a blue streak at me for causing her to waste a cigarette. I rode off laughing. Never saw her again.

Edit: I miss White Castle too! I'm from the Cincinnati area, and used to get them with my friends. They sell the frozen ones here in the grocery stores, but they aren't quite the same.

Once I saw a coyote trotting along the MUP - it looked like he had a rabbit in his mouth. Got closer and realized it was a stuffed toy like you'd give your dog. I wondered if the coyote longed to be someone's pet.

• A guy in a white van pulled up to me and offered me a rose. I declined, because I had nowhere to put it and I was raised in the 80s so I know people in white vans are not to be trusted.
• Cyclist using five five-gallon buckets as panniers.
• A goose harassing a woman who was just trying to eat a sandwich on a park bench. She gave up and moved.
• People on Elliptigos. Those things are hilarious.

I must have posted this one somewhere already, but I didn't see it... eh, whatever.

A few years ago I was riding down 7th Ave in Manhattan, approaching Penn Station from the north, a wide street (maybe four traffic lanes plus parked cars on both sides) with a slight downward slope.
Just south of Times Square I noticed a tall African gentleman striding down the middle of the street. He was elegantly dressed in a long cream colored linen robe with embroidered hems and a matching fez, and wore a serious, purposeful expression.
Cars pass in waves, depending on traffic lights, and as a bicycle I start out at the front of each wave, and eventually wind up at the back, trying to get through one last traffic light. I was just starting from a stop when I noticed the man, a little in front of me, pitching a bowling ball down the center of the street. Within seconds the roadway was full of cars, and how they dealt with the bowling ball, I don't know, but it ended up in the gutter on the other side from me. I turned and saw its owner approaching, perhaps ready for the next round; I rode away.

This thread has a lot of potential. I wish I could remember some of the things I have seen.
