last week on the Minuteman MUP, a guy riding his bike, carrying a paper bag in one hand, and a bag of ice in the other hand, with both hands on both bars. I asked, what have you got there, a sick pack? and he said yup it's the only way to ride on a hot day

Wow. Where to start.

Recently, some stupid cat decided to jump in front of my bike while I was commuting at 25km/hr. By some miracle, it realized its stupidity a split second before impact and stopped just before (I didn't have the luxury of going left as a car was right behind me), probably saving its life and saving me from a potential serious fall and all the consequences that go with.

Probably more scary than funny but I thought it was crazy enough to share.

Someone was riding his bike on a busy street yesterday evening as I was walking home from the subway. I was waiting for the light, and the cyclist was on the street with the light. Traffic was heavy, and he was occupying a lane and moving at about 4 mph, reading his phone, oblivious to all around him. I said, "Look up, look up, you're in traffic, look up, you're in traffic, look up, look up." He eventually heard me, looked at me, and proceeded. He didn't stop reading the cell phone, but last I saw him, he was heading (deliberately) for the back of a bus because it had pulled over at a bus stop, in other words out of the flow of traffic. I normally don't like to tell people what to do and what not to do, but he needed a wakeup.

Hmm I once saw a homeless man getting tossed out of his wheelchair and some other guy beat him with it in Ottawa. I thought it was quite funny at the time.

A guy playing the harmonica while driving. He seemed to be paying attention to traffic so no complaints.

It's funny; passing the college daily, I've spotted at least three students unicycle commuting to nearby off-campus housing.

Yesterday I saw a girl on an 'oma' with front rack and dairy crate cycling, nothing special there. She was also talking on the phone, that's also very common here. But then I look again, and there was a bright pink coiled cord running from the crate to a bright pink 50's model phone that was at her ear. It was really like "What did I just see?"

I saw an obese gentleman dressed in full roadie kit riding around a parking lot on one of those ultra tiny "monkey" bikes the other day when I took the bike trail to work. If I had time to stop I would have took a picture but as is I was already running late.

I was biking on a MUT and as I rounded a corner, going uphill, a little girl, who look about 4 years old, came down towards me on a tiny purple bike with training wheels. She saw me and swerved hard, going into a fence. I stopped to see if she was ok and her mom was right behind her. She staggered to her feet, looked at us, and stated with all the dignity she could muster with her 3 foot frame: "I MEANT TO DO THAT!"

Not so much funny as peculiar. I was waiting at a stoplight when I heard a funny noise to my left. I looked over across two lanes of traffic to an SUV in the left turn lane, where the passenger was blowing a raspberry. I'm pretty sure it was me he was aiming at, as there were no peds, and he was leaning out the window. I'd never seen the guy before, and am still puzzled.

Also, the large fish head that turned up on my commute was kinda funny. Not so funny a week later. Fish heads fish heads, rolly-polly fish heads...

The burning question; Did you eat it up, yum?

No, I did not. I'm vegetarian. :D

One morning about 2 years ago I passed a house on my commute where the front yard had about 50 'items' announcing the 50th birthday of the occupant. Wood cutout signs of vultures and birthday signs.

Last Sunday I rode through 2 different cricket games on the bike path. They were about 50 yards apart too, I think it must have been some sort of competition. I usually see 1 game then, but that day not only were there more players but they were wearing uniforms too.

Two nights ago I was riding home about midnight. About a mile from home there is an overpass, 2 lanes that peel of from the right and a left turn lane and two thru lanes in the middle. Very light traffic and I was in the right thru lane. The car in the lane by the left turn lane was a Maserati. The Maserati was stopped in the lane by the turn lane, not a legal left turn and just sitting there. I was pretty much not paying attention and just checking out his car. After I finally got by him he waved, made a right hand turn across 4 lanes, guess he was just waiting for me to quit staring at his car. Glad he was paying more attention than I was, if he had not seen me and made that turn I would never have thought of him doing that, he could have ran over me. But hey, what is the odds of getting run over by a Maserati?

It is never a surprise to see a Maserati, Rolls, Bentley, Aston, Lamborghini, Ferrari, or whatever else in Vancouver.

Have you guys ever seen the movie 40 year old virgin? if you have you might remember a scene where Steve Carell falls off his bike on sewer lid, well i witness something similar the other day i decided to ride my way to work and there is a street that has a big sewer cover with metal bars that leave open spaces between them. It is well known to all local cyclists that you have to mount the curve on that turn so I was cruising on the sidewalk and I see this dude coming at a sort of high speed coming towards the sewer lid, at first I thought that he was going to mount the sidewalk but he kept going straight then i realize that the guy was talking on the phone with one of those Bluetooth devices, before I could do anything to warn him the guy got his front wheel into the sewer lid and got face-planted on the ground and kind off flip over ending on his back. Now I know a fall like that can be very dangerous and should not be something to laugh about but honestly it looked pretty funny and I couldn't help to giggle a little, so I go an check on the guy to see if he's OK fortunately for him he was wearing all his safety equipment and the helmet took most of the hit, his bike got messed up of course but nothing serious happened to him he even laugh about it later on and that's an experience that I will never forget.

PD: Be careful when your riding don't talk on the phone while riding the consequences can be fatal take care out there and be safe!

Riding home last night I saw this tall guy cruising along on a hoverboard having an animated discussion with someone while talking on his cell phone. What made it even weirder was he was moving his arms around like the classic stereotypical Italian but looked and sounded like Usain Bolt.
