This turned out to be a very informative thread; I had no idea people were inflating this frequently.

They need air more often than once every 6 months, even at a low pressure. My mountain bike tires - 50/40 psi front/rear for 2.1" tires - need air about every 2 weeks. Higher pressure - 90 psi - need them about every third day. I'll bet yours get pretty squishy by winter.

Fick's Law of diffusion still applies to any tire.

The net diffusion rate of a gas across a fluid membrane is proportional to the difference in partial pressure, proportional to the area of the membrane and inversely proportional to the thickness of the membrane.

premature inflation? inflation dysfunction? obsessive compulsive inflation? You think we have a problem?

Poll does not list my response.. I check them before every ride.. One thing I look for... How much air was lost during the previous ride.. Usually its like 3-5 lbs..If it should be more, gives me suspicion to think , maybe the tube has developed a mini leak.. that could happen each and every ride. No... So why risk not knowing of a potential leak in advance of your next ride..

wow. i thought it was just me! I've been pumping daily ever since geting my track pump. On a side note - My pump adapter seems to be wearing down and not sealing. How do you guys go with your adapters with all this pumping?
what pumps?

And I'm surprised people are inflating so infrequently! I'm an every morning guy--but I suspect that those riding 23s (like me) make up the bulk of the daily inflaters and those riding Big Apples and such are the biweekly inflaters.

Topeak road morph on the road
Some old Innovations floor pump with dual heads.
Some pump I just picked up last weeks from DicksSporting Goods for the workshop with a dual head.

I tried some valve adapter from the lbs and it wouldn't even seal the first time. Are you using a presta-schreader adapter or some extension adaptor for a special rim?

I'm running tubeless 26x1.6, tubeless looses a bit more air than tubes, so normally maybe 2x/week I air them up to 70.

How about every time I ride? Road tires lose pressure quickly, and you are much more likely to get a flat if your tires are underinflated. So I generally top off my tires every time I ride. I run 700x23 road tires (Michelin and Vredstein) on my bikes. The only exception would be some Panaracer Paselas that I use on my commuter in winter. Since they are much larger (700x28) and can run at lower pressure, they don't need to be pumped up as often -- usually about every 3 days.

Every time I ride. The tires I rode to work on today say to inflate them to at least 130 PSI.

If I'm riding daily or almost daily I'll check and reinflate them every other day. A better poll would be

Daily or before every ride
Every other day
Once a week
Only when noticeably low or flat

Cold dark commute season is allmost here.
I pump at least 2x a week.
I do it the night before.
Nightly I charge my lights, check my commuter rig, even gather up what I will wear.

I like the carefree approach to heading out the door at 5:30 in the morning.

+1 for me too. Sometimes more than once a week, sometimes twice in a week. I just go by feel, depending on where/how hard I ride it can differ I've been noticing.

I feel them every day; probably re-inflate every 10-15 days.

Before every ride I check. I use 700cx35 tires on my hybrid. I inflate to the max 80 psi. 400+ miles and no flats. Of course, now that I've posted this, I will get a flat on the next ride.

I do each bike at least once a week.

If I am going beyond 4 miles (R.T.), I will do it before each ride.

Does the OP make one poll a day? Perhaps we have a poll quota that needs fulfilling?
I pump them up when they need it. Nothing more complicated than that.

informative indeed; i had just assumed most all aired tires on daily basis as i do. tubes are made from a porous material.

That is my SOP, as well. Plus a good squeeze in the PM to check for the ride home. Works out to 3 check/pumps and 3 oinch/checks per week.

there are sometimes I have done it more then once in a day.

I heard 10degree change will deflate your tires at least 3psi(that might not be exactly right). I'm already saving time from riding, so why not.

When 80% say every week it is a bad poll.
The options should be:
everyday
every other day
twice a week
weekly
once a month
Greater then once a month

80% of the info is in the one answer.

I check the air every time I ride... quick thumb check. I break out the pump at different times for different bikes. My commuter runs 85 PSI Armadillos... I check it about once a week. My skinny tire bike runs 120PSI, I top it off every ride.

My MTB runs 45PSI... I check it once a week or longer.

Seems like the higher pressure/lower volume tires lose the bigger % of air in the shortest time.
