[QUOTE=Wiswell;413499]Since this is the commuting section, I would be curious to know what jobs people are commuting by bike, and the different rituals when arriving at work. So, here the questions:

A) Manager of a plbg/htg wholesale house

B) 54.4 miles r/t , 3-4 days a week. (if we had showering facilities it would be 5 days)

C) When at work I b) change clothes/clean up (don't have showers)

D) Where bike is parked / In my office, across from my desk.

E) Number of years commuting / just under a year

F) part time commuter / between the time changes(homey don't ride in the dark )

Occupation: Research Associate at a marketing research firm

Clean up: no shower facilities; I usually do not change and just clean up in the bathroom, but once it starts to warm up I will start changing at work

Occupation

Proofreader in document-processing center at law firm

B) Commuting Distance

About 9.5 miles on the bike each way, excluding ferry ride from Staten Island, NY to Manhattan--(which is about 5 miles as the crow flies) for approx. 2- 3 days out of a 5-day work week

C) When at work I a) shower b) change clothes/clean up c) don't change clothes and hope for the best/clean up

b) carry a fresh clean T-shirt, which I change into after I take off sweaty hooded sweat shirt (in winter) and put on neatly folded office-appropriate buttoned-down and collared shirt then peel off my rain and wind-proof trousers (in fall and winter) with my office slacks underneath them. My office slacks are at this point slightly damp from perspiration as the rain and wind pants don't breathe all that well but they dry quickly and it's much better than squishing around in drenched pants, as happened to me one day. A little underarm deodorant and baby powder sprinkled before the T-Shirt change does the trick for freshness. No shower available in the office.

D) Where bike is parked

Locked with Kryptonite bike chain looped through front wheel and frame and chained to outdoor rack (or if occupied, "no parking" sign)--then TWO Krytonite U-Locks through rear wheel and frame outside building. On really rainy days, if time permits, will park bike at racks near another office building a few blocks away, as it has an overhang protecting my bike from the elements.

E) Number of years commuting

Only about 7 months.

F) Year-round/part time commuter

Started in April 2007, when Spring had just sprung, and have kept it up through late January 2008--so far, so good! But part-time because it is a rare week that I manage to do it every day of the work week. (Once I had a perfect week of cycling, did the whole 19-mile round trip 5 out of 5 workdays! Then I nursed my sore legs the following week.)
