Trouble in malls?
Anyone have any trouble in malls? Specifically in door malls? I just don't want to ride my bike all the way there and have security on my ass within 5 minutes. Of course, I won't be riding my bike around there

I don't think there will be many people there though. I plan on going Monday during the morning and at that time I'll be lucky to even see a couple of old people walking around. I'll keep that in mind though.

The few times when I wheeled my bike into a mall, I had no problems with security. However, if I'm biking to the mall, I'd rather lock the bike outside, because individual stores inside the mall might not allow bicycles in there, and I'd rather have the bike locked somewhere than leaning against a wall outside the store entrance, all defenseless...

My apartment building is connected to the mall so I have on occasion walked my bike through the mall to my apartment building entrance. Once a security guard tried to toss me out but I told him to get me the rule sheet that says tenants of the building are banned from the mall with a bike. He hasn't shown me anything written, and he hasn't approached me again. I figure if I'm only walking my bike through it shouldn't be a bother. That said, I definitely wouldn't bring my bike into any of the stores since I'd easily knock over merchandise or make a mess and that's not nice.

Haven't been to a mall in years.
Why not lock it up just like any other place? If I worked there, I would see if the shop/business owner would allow me to bring into the back room, etc...

The mall closest to my house has a Police "storefront" at one of the entrances. There are usually police officers and mall security coming and going. I lock my bike right outside their door and have never had a problem.

I've never seen a door mall!! What kind of doors do they sell there?
And if you rode your bike to a door mall ... and then bought a door ... how would you put it on your bike??
Doggie door ... yes. Full size house door ... ehhh. Garage door ... not so much.

The way you say it makes it sound like you plan to work there or pass through there on a consistent/daily basis. If that's the case, the best bet would be to either ask them to set up some bike racks (who knows, they might already have them) or lockers, or ask your employer to let you keep it in the back. Also, if your mall has service entrances (particularly ones which go directly to your business), use them. It'll keep you away from the old ladies, if nothing else. The mall I used to go to had zero security in the service corridors to boot.

thinking of the malls ive frequented... i think they may have bike racks, not sure. you could lock it to something outside the main entrance where theres a lot of people around at all times.

I got chased around a local mall on my bike by the police. It was really great fun, till they called my Mom. It was in the 60's and was an open mall. I dont remember how much trouble I got in.

Ride your bike in slowly, sporting a desert tan and 4 day's of stubble growth. When approached by security, take a slow drag from the cigarillo dangling from your chapped lips and squint a while, before answering in a low growl that you answer to no man.
