I need a new wallet
I have been riding in for a few months now, and my leather wallet has started to look like it has seen better days. I am starting to think that a nylon wallet might be a better idea...
For riding, and I ride in my work clothes [jeans, khakis], is a nylon wallet a better idea than leather? If anyone does use a nylon wallet, can anyone suggest one that doesn't make me look like a twelve year old? I am not going to switch to a money clip... |
I bought a small wallet at the Mega-lo-mart that is suede with a little magnetic flap. I can clip it to my cycling jersey pocket and it stays put, or it is slim enough that I can't feel it in my jeans pocket. It has just enough room for the crtical stuff- driver liscense, debit card, insurance card and a $20 bill. I think it is ideal for bike rides when you don't want the hassle of a tri-fold.

You just need a more expensive leather wallet. Let me suggest the stylish and pricey wallets from Billykirk... http://www.billykirk.com/images/phot...4BZ_CLOSED.jpghttp://www.billykirk.com/images/shop/92-135_FRONT.jpg On a more serious note, there's the American Apparel Poplin Wallet, which is fairly cheap and it doesn't have velcro. http://i.americanapparel.net/storefr...g569_Ivory.jpg I'm bored. |
i use one of these http://www.sierratradingpost.com/i/1...ie-Wallet.html and haven't had a single prob with it. love it actually

Duluth Pack- http//www.duluthpack.com makes a great wallet of canvas and leather;
lasts for ever, looks nice, plus made in the USA. All of their products are great. |

I have had one of these for about four years now. Still looks like the day I bought it and it's been all over the place. Customer service is second to none too! |
This is what I use when cycling... and since I cycle so much, it is now what I use all the time.

My wallet is lasting a long time now, because I don't carry it when I'm on the bike. The only thing I need when I'm riding is my ID card to get in the door at work, so there's no point in bringing a wallet.

I got a Dakine leather bifold at a clearance sale. It doesn't curve as much in a dungaree
pocket like my plastic comb. I don't think I need to lose any planks on my back porch. . |
I use a Fossil "front pocket wallet". It's my favorite so far. I got this because I didn't like sitting on a wallet, and always took it out of my pocket when sitting down or driving, and consequently let it behind several times. I keep this in my front pants pocket.
3 slots on one side, one slot and the magnetic clip on the other side, and a center pocket in the middle. Credit/debit cards, ID, insurance cards is all I carry, I rarely have cash. http://slimages.macys.com/is/image/M...0.5,0&fmt=jpeg |
I really like the All-Ett Billfold--"the world's slimmest wallet". It's nylon. You can keep it in your front pocket. I've tried their leather version, but don't find it as durable as the original nylon version.

the best time for wallet shopping is right after christmas, you can get designer leather wallets for 40-60% off, I usually buy two to last a couple of years..

+1 for the all-ett...I have had mine for 5 years and LOVE it!

I use a Wenger Swiss Army Card Case. http://www.wengerna.com/stuff/conten...8_02_230tn.png It forces me to carry few cards, fits nicely in my seatbag, and my front pocket. (I never carry my wallet in my back pocket; too much stress and strain on my lower back when I sit.)

I have one of these, which I carry in my front pocket along with my phone: http://www.hamag.com.au/catalog/item...54/4964212.htm
It's a perfect fit for a credit card/train ticket/folded $20/etc; empty it's only 3/16" thick. If I need to carry more around than that, I'll have my bag with my anyway, in which case I chuck my normal wallet in my bag, but still carry this little thing in my front pocket for easy access to my train ticket. http://www.hamag.com.au/i/Roo%20Acce...098_Closed.jpg http://www.hamag.com.au/i/Roo%20Acce.../4098_Open.jpg |

http://www.all-ett.com/images/allett_09.jpg http://www.all-ett.com/images/allbb1.jpg I'm sure it's a great wallet, but when I see pics like that, I can only think of the TV kitchen gadget commercials where they show a professional klutz destroying some piece of food by brute force and brute idiocy as the "conventional" way to do it. |

Clearly photos designed by a marketing department. "If you have a conventional wallet with 37 credit cards wedged into it, it's a lot fatter than our spiffy wallet with only 4." Duh.

Actually, the website claims that both wallets have the same contents--30 cards. Obviously, I can't say whether that's really true or not, but I was definitely impressed when I switched from my conventional wallet to the All-Ett by how much slimmer it was.
I hate having stuff in my front pockets, it pokes me and makes me uncomfortable when sitting. |
I'll have to keep these in mind, some look pretty good. I got my first wallet when I was 16, and replaced it when I was 42. In another 24 years hopefully some of these will still be around.
FWIW, I didn't really want to replace my wallet then, but my wife bought me a new one and I kinda had to. I did not, however, switch to the new leather jacket she bought me; my 25 year old bomber was just getting broken in. |
