Train Station Biatch

So there was I happy goer, great morning and after noon, picked up some new parts for my bike from my LBS, bike show tomorrow, what a wonderful start for a weekend.... or so i though.

So in the train the conductor hit the break a bit too hard, and some one knock me over and dropped my bike, i was still standing.

thinking it was all nice no biggie, i go to my next train station on bike, only to my surprise all the gears are out of whack, so i immediately knew my rear dérailleur is misaligned after that little incident.

so no problem, i managed to get to my next train change with whatever was left good of the gears, didn't have time to fix it, else i'll miss the train.

So, it's all good, i caught the train, on my way home, got off the train, i headed to the nearest empty bench to sit down, unpack my gear (tools) and started adjusting my bike.

It was all good, onlookers was like cool bike, blah blah blah, every now an then a cloud of people will form like a semi circle around to watch me fix the bike, etc.

All along there was this "chick" or so i though, in the opposite bench, taking up both sits (each bench has 3 sits), as if she was "sun tanning" under the halogen lamp of the train station.

then when most of the cloud of people has left (this was the pick up terminal) the "chick" was still there, then she moved elsewhere, i didn't care, nor pay much attention to her, 'cuz my main task is to fix the gears, so i can go home (long ride).

Then this high class expensive looking chick turns out to be a biatch, she comes over and "yells" (if i didn't read lips, i don't think i'd have hear her LOL ) "Can you stop that!! is noisy here...", and i was like "WTF? this is a public place" it's a Train station for god's sake, even if i didn't make noise, the continuous coming and leaving of the trains makes even more noise, and so the automatic sliding doors, and the ding/dong chime of the elevator, and the cars picking up people honking they arrived, or the people just going in and out, etc... so i was really ticked

but i was too busy to care to go into a verbal fight with a biatch that is not worth my time.

besides who in their right mind, will pretend to "study" in a busy train station at rush hour, and expect peace and quiet? heck is not my fault her boyfriend forgot to pick her up or something....

all the people that chat with me, or simply looked at how i was fixing the bike meanwhile they were waiting for pick up, no one ever commented about the noise, so what right does she have to come complain?

Anyways, soon after that i got all my gears realigned and ready to roll.

By the time i left, she was still waiting...

Sorry to hear about your bad day. In addition to having to deal with an unanticipated problem with your bicycle, you had to deal with a person who wasn't much fun to be around.

Whenever I encounter disagreeable people I try to remember that I have no idea what kind of day they had. Unless I know I'm being rude, I try to remember that maybe I'm getting the brunt of another person's reaction to something I had nothing to do with and it helps diffuse the situation for me. The fact that she might have had a bad day didn't give her the right to treat you badly, but people are people. You can't really control what other people do; you can only control how you react to them when they do it.

I'm declining to participate in your poll. For one thing, I can't say if you were being too loud because I wasn't there to hear whatever noise you might have been making. For another thing, your other poll option assumes a motive on the part of this woman (that she needed attention) that may or may not be true -- unless she actually told you she was looking for attention, you really have no way of knowing what her motive might have been, or even if she had one. For a third thing, I'm not fond of the word biatch or any of its variations. Because it's a gender-specific word, it suggests that something about the person's character is flawed as a result of that person's gender. That's just gender-biased thinking.

I think what you might be looking for with your poll is a little validation that you didn't do anything wrong. Hearing only your side of the story, it's tough for me to say, but in the abstract I'd have to agree with your premise that there's nothing wrong with fixing a bike at a train station. Still, we live in a world where doing nothing wrong doesn't guarantee that people will always respond by being nice. Think of it this way, though. If that woman really is miserable, you only had to deal with her for a little while. She has to deal with herself 24/7.

I can't imagine how can one make noise for fixing a bike unless you were grunting like a constipated man while using your multitool Maybe you and your bike makes you undeniably attractive and she was just trying to flirt. Also, did you wear cycling clothes at that time? If so, that add another point to my argument.

Jokes aside. I assume GTA means Greater Toronto Area. I thought people there were not that curious about people fixing bikes.

I've had that happen before... but it only happens when i take my cousin's folder to the LBS (don't even bother asking why i do it for him) but its only because when i end up folding it to get on the train that people actually notice... either way some people can be complete jerks

Quoted for truth. What part, exactly, of fixing a drivetrain is noisy...?

With a great name like Luigi, you didn't take the opportunity to make a small apology for upsetting her, explain that you also have a car, that you enjoy dining out at nice restaurants and would be ever so gratefull if she would consider at least having a drink with you? (sigh) I guess I'm just a romantic. I mean really, this is the start of a short film.

I did, i said "sorry, but i need to realign my gears before i can ride home"
and she said, "take it outside don't do it here" .....

at that point is when i though "WTF? why don't you go outside and wait, for a change, under chilly sub zero winds" i never actually said it to her, but if i weren't so concentrated adjusting my dérailleur, that could have been a long argument starter

true that, i'm just assuming she wanted attention, and also assumed she's waiting for the BF.

as for her bad day, yeah i figure that much, that's why i didn't bother arguing with her.

6 train load of people, when through the station in about 2 hrs span, you can easily hear the loud noise of the train engine arriving and departing, then all the herd of people coming in and out of the station every time the train sound was present.

most people that i was chatting with at the station, have left already when their pick up arrived.

it was quite obvious whom ever was suppose to pick her up, didn't come and she's pissed by that, after seeing all the people come and go.

How loud could a bike possibly be compared to a TRAIN?! Unless you really, really need to lube your chain.

You could have asked to borrow the frame pump that she obviously had lodged up her @ss.

I agree. This is a great first scene for a movie. I'm undecided as to whether the main location should be Rome, or Sienna, or possibly Venice.

Ok, let me tell you... Rome is a bunch of streets, dirty and closed in, that lead to beautiful places. Sienna is an incredible place that has incredible temperatures. Then Venice. (that's a complete sentence) Truly a place of magic and inspiration. My memories of Venice have little to do with bikes... it's a place that takes your wallet and and your heart at the same time.... and you don't give a damn.

Wait, this is a bike forum..... not a travel forum..... guess I got off topic when you mentioned Italian cities I've visited.

Bikes: several

I think I would have asked "are you planning on catching a train any time soon? you've been sitting here and several have been and gone... you did notice that this is a train station and NOT a library, didn't you"

Either that or I would have initiated a conversation with my imaginary friend, the topic of conversation would have quickly turned weird....

For all we know the OP could have been loudly singing old Hank Williams tunes, badly off key. But thats just a wild guess.

LOL

yeah, imaginary conversation is partially what i did, meanwhile my eyes were fixated on getting the gears working there it should again.

And no definitely i was not singing at all, i was just quietly listening to my iphone.

As for the Euro trip / vacation remark up there, most definitely that is part of my plans, someday. That's why i got a folding bike, so i can take it with me anywhere excellent for those pleasure trips, just to admire the great nice scenery.

So why didn't you do what you believe the loudmouth should have done but didn't? Namely, ignore the "noise" as just one more insignificant blip in a cacophony of train station noise. Certainly nothing to get all wound up about. She was goofy, and you let the goofiness of a stranger affect you.
