strange feeling today
i had the strangest feeling today. about half way thru my commute, i stopped to add additional lights and change glasses from dark to clear. once i was on my way, i felt higher than the bike, or as if it wasn't under me at all ... seat felt like it was raised three feet, and my 700c' felt like 1200c. //very// strange feeling ... and i was cranking my butt off, flying thur a stretch of my commute i normally chill, and take it slow.
'happen to you? opposite of bonk? ... i don't think i would call it "the zone" ... but nice none the less.
and no, i'm not on any medication

I really feels like I am in the zone. And since I tend to keep metrics on the swimming stuff, usually I find I have shaved a minute or two off my regular time. Then in a day or so... blammo... I get a cold.
Odd thing, but that is the way it's worked for me.
Perhaps your experience is different... maybe you were in the zone, or you somehow got a shot of adrenalin as your body somehow perceived a threat.

I get that sometimes, and as 'genec' said, it seems like it happens before i get a cold or something. coincidence maybe? i'm not sure. But it's similar to a runner's high, and usually happens when i've taken a break, maybe 10 minutes or so (I.e running into my LBS) and when i get back on the bike feels lighter and just easier to pedal. It's not the same as a runner's high, because when I get that it's more trance-like than what happens biking.

I had something like that yesterday but it was from not sleeping at all that night. Sorta an outta body experience. I never get it with an adrenaline rush, bet that was cool. Last Friday morning I had waken from a scarey nightmare and my morning commute is in the dark. I was spooked out at the slightest noises and high tailled it to work, made for a fast ride.

i'm going to try switching my glasses about the same time tomorrow, and see if that makes a diff. ... pro'lly not. i'll just end up with a cold.

I've had something similar, but distinct feeling. I had just been at a dinner party, followed by Rock Band (Because that's just how I roll.) On the ride home, some combination of the weather, the red wine and the fact that I had 'Highway Star' by Deep Purple stuck in my head, they all came together and lead to a ride so epic that it is still embedded in my mind.

It's either a cold or they finally fixed the Large Hadron Collider that exists beneath the French Swiss border. It will smash pieces of atoms together, generate temperatures of more than a million degrees centigrade, and some scientists believe, may create a mini-black hole that will tear the earth apart.
My momentary vending machine nirvana could be a sign of the latter.

I get weird feeling on the bike when I haven't slept enough. It's been a busy week, and The Girl hasn't been sleeping well... which means me and the pup don't sleep well either. This morning I felt like I was doing mach 2, and when I looked at my speed I was actually doing only 14mph (on a section where I usually do 17-18).

Could be a few things. Being in the zone is high on the list of possibilities, however could also be....
...the meds kicking in.....
...residue from last nights binge....
...flashback to that sugar cube you ate in "77"....
... the euphoric bike riding feeling....
Probably the last one, but you never know.
Joking aside. It is a good feeling when that happens, isn't it?

I've heard some people say that they never feel their legs and can peddle as hard and as long as they want. Their only limit is cardiovascular endurance. Wish I could be like that, because I definitely feel my legs.

it is called a stop rest.
that's why i don't mind catching Red Lights at all.
it helps me release my muscles , then pump hard again to go as fast as car.
but if i don't catch a red light pause, for like 3 ~ 4 major intersection in a row, then i start to get tired.... well it is obvious, i'm still human
but yes everytime after a stop + a sip of water, i feel waaaaaay lighter again.

This is probably not what you are experiencing but it is what I first thought of. I once in a while get feeling kinda similar to what is described in that link above. I'd probably have to stop if I ever started feeling that when I was on a bike though.

Ah, the zone. From time to time I will hit just the right cadence and state of mind where it feels like every muscle in my legs is doing what it's supposed to do and I could go on forever. Win!
