Retrofitting my Cross-Check, should I do it?

Lately I've been thinking long and hard about getting my bike retrofitted or getting a new frame and retrofitting it or getting the Traveler's Check (already retrofit).

My frame is a first generation Cross Check that I love oh so dearly.

Bilenky just raised their price from $400 to $460... But is still cheaper than getting a new Traveler's Check, which IMO doesn't compare with my XC's 1" threaded fork and 631 tubes. The only upside is that I wouldn't have to wait a month to do the whole darn thing, shipping it, etc.

My other option is to just get a lugged dream aand getting it retrofitted. I really like the Soma Speedster but I'd feel too overprotective to enjoy it wholly.

So do you think it's worth it to retrofit my baby? I know it's not lugged and doesn't have the best tubes...

Oh, and post your retrofitted bikes if you have one!

You may want to explain what it is you want to get done because there are probably a number of readers that don't know about S&S couplers. If you regularly travel with your bike, then go for it!

Ah yes! For those who don't know, it's basically a process of hacking your frame in two to parts so that it may fit in a suitcase.

When I travel, I travel with my Swift folder. I'd really like to ditch it entirely though, 20 inch wheels just doesn't cut it.

You bring your frame to a shop which deals with S & S Couplers.
They strategically chop your frame in half, remove some tubing length, and braze on the couplers.
They replace your current cables with QR cables, to aid in disassembly of your bike for travel.
Now you have a full size bike that fits in an oversized suitcase.
