Periodization calls for recovery or light weeks on a regular basis (usually every 4th week). Consider it a vacation from commuting, then when you get back on it you'll enjoy it more.

Fort Worth != Houston

But yeah, I love my weather this time of year. I grew up in Buffalo; I know cold.

I commuted in today. About 50 degrees, foggy and damp. I had a t-shirt, long-sleeve t-shirt and hoodie on top, and gym shorts on the bottom. One layer too many on top; I was way too warm.

Nah... life happens bro.
This has happened to me a few times. I wish I could say I was a totally devoted car-free person, but I'm not there. I don't ride in storms and if I have something happening that doesn't allow for me to ride that day, I don't ride. 75% of the time, I'm riding 5 days a week. The other weeks are usually 3-4 days I ride.
However, because I love my cycling, I try to combine any reasons that I wouldn't be able to ride. I.E. I will try to combine my appointments, pick ups, etc

I think worrying about it really just lowers the overall enjoyment of riding =)

I took the long way home.

I rode from my office all the way up the river MUP to the fringes of downtown, then rode the side streets back home. My usual 7.5 mile commute was instead almost 25 miles of riding in some of the most pleasant weather imaginable- about 70F and almost no wind. So for the day I got in about 30 miles. That almost makes up for not commuting earlier in the week.
