pretty easy to set up though, and maintenance free. I never cared for derailleurs anyway. friction makes me anxious. |

I commute on every bike I own and usually ride something different on Friday's... quite a few of my bikes are over 50 years old so I don't want to subject them to the daily beating but none of them get to be garage queens either. My main summer commuter is a 46 year old Peugeot with a fixed gear conversion. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...tenewbars1.jpg |
I love this frame. It's like art.

1983 Schwinn LeTour Luxe I picked up from the original owner for 25 USD. New tubes, tires, tape, clips, straps, and lights. This is one of the smoothest and sturdiest bikes I've ever ridden.
She may look like a piece of junk but she's got it where it counts, kid. She'll make point five beyond the speed of light. I've added some special modifications myself. And I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you, but the big Corellian ships. It's the bike that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs. She's fast enough for you, old man. http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/117/slt001ns1.jpg http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/9561/slt002cm0.jpg |

Well, it does have rack mounts, so obviously Specialized figured someone would want to attach one. Good looking bike.

Being able to blow through potholes, and pretty much anything else has it's pluses.

Just picked up this little beauty.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...frontangle.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...orearangle.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...milanoside.jpg I tested a Specialized Chicago Langster (Gangster) but wasn't really diggin' the bullhorn bars. I loved the New York Langster, but the shop didn't have one in my size and after riding the Chicago...figured it would feel the same. The ride was VERY harsh. Then tested a 2007 Bianchi M.U.S.S. single speed and liked it, but on a whim, tested the Milano Citta and knew immediately it was the right bike for me. It came with front/rear fenders and a rear rack, but I removed those when I got home. Love the twist shift for the 8 gears. Shifts were quick, smooth, and quiet. No lag between gears at all. A twist of the wrist immediately changed gears. The little woman didn't really like the color, but I had to explain to her that a Bianchi just isn't a Bianchi unless it's celeste. She had to get a brief history lesson. The folks at Daniel Boone Cycles in Houston were REALLY great and were patient with me as I test rode the bikes several times. I'd hop off one and get right on another. I did this several times and kept going back to the Milano. |

Here is my Langster I have been commuting on.
Someone in one of the fixed gear threads said something like it was illegal to put panniers on a Langster. I must be breaking the law. I am getting farther away from stock each day. I replaced the factory fork with a Columbus Carve, went with an Easton EC70 post, and chopped the bars and flipped them and ran Cane Creek levers to a Dura-Ace brakeset. We dont get much rain here in Texas (except for last year) so i roll with the Planet Bike grunge guard on the front and a basic SKS Xtra-Dry on the rear under my rack. The panniers and trunk bag are simple ones from Nashbar that work perfectly for my little commute. =) http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a92/xixiviii/lang1.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a92/xixiviii/lang2.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a92/xixiviii/lang4.jpg |
