Here is my bike: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...urak/bike1.jpg Good beans, I'd be scared poop-less of having it scratched, doored, stolen or otherwise molested... Do be careful, kind Sir. |

This is not my bike but I would give up alot for it  Someone posted it on the fixed/SS forum. They took the picture in Tokyo. The head tube is brazed into lugs that go into the top and sloping tubes. sick! |
Saw this on the way home last night (Queen & Yonge in Toronto):
http://msnomer.com/crumb/arugula/Str...e/DSCF0605.jpg Not sure if anybody commutes with it, but I'd like to see it! More pics: http://msnomer.com/crumb/arugula/Strange%20bike/ |
That is exactly my cup of tea. I'm a huge "adventure tour" fan. Does Thorn sell in the U.S.?

I'm in Garden Grove.
Um, anyway, on the ordering thing...I don't really know, since I've never owned a Thorn; it was just an observation I noticed. You'd be better off asking the guy who's actually got a Thorn (I forgot the poster's name, but he lives in San Diego, and his pictures of his Thorn are posted up in this thread a few pages back). |
Well its time to post my bike. I've only had it for two weeks and I've just beginning to get it how I want. This is my second bike so I got something that will spend its entire life as the 'commuter'
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/492/00038or6.th.jpg I haven't ridden a bike with fenders on before and I had just put them on then. Once I figure out how these cheap ones go I'll put an expensive set on. Another pic but with my lights on it: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/3106/00039mi2.th.jpg I like the nexus hub its good, but I think I'm gonna gear it up a bit atm its running a 42x19. But I'm still sensing the bike out. Mods done so far: B17 saddle, koolstop thinline pads, fenders, pedals (giant platforms which are surprisingly good. I've got a narrower set of bars that I am contemplating on putting on, when I have a bit of free time. |
Here is my commuter bike. Got it off eBay for €25 and added some of my stuff onto it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/DSCF0012.jpg Kick stand isn't long enough and fenders don't completely cover the tires... |

For as long as I have been lurking about these forums, I haven't posted my ride. Here are some pics. Basically the thing is like the SUVs of bikes it doesn't go off road as much as I thought it would when I got it 9 years ago. Dreams of mountain biking have been met with the reality of office commuting.
It has a hub dynamo so it could be considered the hybrid SUV equivalent. That is what you see lighting up my route and is the origin of my avatar. I've got more than two years on the Schwalbe Marathons and no flats. But the roads are surprisingly clean here. |

Well, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) who runs all the trains and busses in Chicago proper say I can take the bike on the bus or train anytime because it folds. Most of the busses in the city have bike racks built on the front of them so that's an option too.
Now the METRA (suburban commuter train into the city) says I can take it on so long as its in a bag. I got a folder mainly for security reasons. I've lost enough bikes to theft so I wanted to get something I can bring into the office with me (and the house too). The rent-a-cops at my building would never let me in with a bike, but folding it and putting it in the bag shuts them up. Technically I shouldn't need a bag, but I have one as a courtesy to the property. Though it has a full size 26" wheel, once folded it fits nicely in my car. So I can go out to one of the hundreds of parks and trails in and around Chicago with out having to set up some kind of rack on my car. P.S. I really like your bike, nice paint job and great lines. How do those handle bars work out for you? I'm thinking about changing mine to something like that. because sometimes my fingers get numb when I ride and I have to change my grip to get feeling back in my pinkie and ring fingers. |

Here's my new ride: 2007 Novara (REI) Randonee. I bought her a few weeks ago for 20% off and she's finally set up the way I want:
Selle Royal gel saddle (off my old road bike) Speedplay Frog pedals (off my old road bike) Freddy Fenders Dinotte Ultra 5 AA (on sale) Planet Bike Superflash (on sale) Novara rack trunk Topeak Comp 140 computer This is my first bike with STI shifters. I love STI shifting the rear derailleur but on the front derailleur it's starting to annoy me. I may go to a bar end shifter for the front derailleur. |

This is what happens when you listen to the voices
So I'm stripping old Caloi Strada Pro single speed to morph into a commuter and I started thinking "why are so many parts always black? Why not orange or green or purple?". Hmm. I'm getting the frame ready for the powder coating shop (Olympic in Santa Anita, CA - far way from me but *very* reasonable and a great job too). Hmm. Frack it, do it all.
http://minion.nu/images/commuter_side.jpg http://minion.nu/images/commuter_front.jpg Still need a set of nice green Vittoria Paves', and a new rack (my old one doesn't fit :(). This project really got me thinking about my assumptions and the build possibilities when cheap, quality color is available. Sure wish you could powder coat carbon. |
